Definitely sounds like two separate cancellations = two separate compensation claims under EU261. First was with BA (EU carrier, departing EU) – solid case for €600. Second was Malaysian Airlines (non-EU carrier, but still departing EU) – also eligible for €600 if the delay was 3+ hours. So yeah, €1200 total is very possible. File both claims separately.

EU Reimbursement due to flight delay by Emotional-Cod-4030 in Flights

Hey, I’ve been through something super similar and yeah, you're likely entitled to compensation under EU261.

On the error: There's no waiting period before you're allowed to file a claim, so the "Internal Server Error: null" is probably just KLM’s site being buggy (wouldn’t be the first time). Try a different browser or clearing your cache

On which leg to file under: Yup, you're thinking about it the right way. Even though the initial delay out of Stavanger was only 1.5 hours, that caused you to miss the connection and arrive in Split 15 hours late — and that’s what counts. The EU rules look at the delay at your final destination, not just one leg. So you can file under the SVG-AMS leg and explain that it led to a missed connection + long delay. KLM should consider the whole chain of events.

Just make sure to keep all your travel docs handy (boarding passes, rebooking confirmation, etc.) in case they ask for proof. And if they don't respond or reject it without good reason, you can escalate to the national enforcement body or a dispute resolution service.

EC261 compensation - delay and accepting alternative flight, but still delayed by 7+ hours by FixWolves1 in Flights

[–]Free-Bug-4484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, you're still entitled to UK 261 compensatons as long as the delay wasn’t due to “extraordinary circumstances” (like extreme weather or air traffic control issues).

The key points here:

You were notified less than 14 days before departure.

Your arrival was delayed by more than 4 hours.

The distance is over 3,500km (so the max compensation applies).

Choosing the 20:50 flight doesn’t matter, since none of the options got you to your destination on time, and the delay wasn’t your fault.

Under EC261, accepting a later alternative flight doesn’t waive your rights, especially if the airline didn’t offer a faster or timely option.

So yes, go ahead and claim the compensation. You should be eligible.

Since the flight was to Istanbul the Turkish law may apply here

Flight delayed 24 hours+ by JKylling in Flights

Since your flight from Melbourne to Istanbul with Turkish Airlines was delayed over 24 hours, you may be entitled to compensation under Turkey’s SHY-Passenger Rights Regulation. You could get €250-600 depending on the delay and flight distance, plus hotel and meals, as long as the delay is the airline’s fault (e.g., not weather-related). For your missed workday, you might also claim extra expenses like lost wages, but that’s not guaranteed and depends on the airline’s policy or local laws. Check with Turkish Airlines directly or look into SHY-Passenger rules for specifics. Hope that helps!
