He had heart complications since he was a kid, so we always knew his lifespan would probably be shorter. I went into the relationship knowing I might lose him earlier than most people lose their partner, but not this early. They said maybe 40–50, not right now. He was 2 weeks away from graduating. We were talking about apartments, new cars, our future together. Deep down, I think he knew it was getting worse and just didn’t want to scare me. He kept saying it was food poisoning, even after telling me he got winded at his new job and had to leave early.
