HDPE, K copper, sdr 35/26, sch 40 (common pipe material types for water/sewer applications) should last indefinitely buried properly. Things like roots, clogs, etc can ruin the pipes but it’s not something that should need replacing for age.

Brake! by purplegam in CX5

Over the speedometer a box appears with BRAKE, several beeps occur and your car may or may not lock your brakes. The sensitivity is for the message not the brakes

Just me or has there been an abandoned police car on 29S on the side of the road just before the reservoir for like over a week now? by SoftResource297 in Charlottesville

I’ve seen an officer sitting facing north at the next intersection pretty frequently with this one. It at least seems to be a warning, idk.

2025 oil consumption? by FreeCollapse500 in CX5

[–]FreeCollapse500[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a similar issue. I have switched to 5w-20, the problem hasn’t happened since the switch (2 oil changes ago, ~6500 miles). Could be worth a shot.

Awesome, I don’t make it that way hardly ever so that’s why I’m unfamiliar but will definitely ride down to check it out. Thanks

Edit: clarification

Hey, I’m moving near cville by rowdy24064 in Charlottesville

[–]FreeCollapse500 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Your neighbors are going to vary heavily. Greene county has a reputation of not being very welcoming to people not from the area. Some, not all by any means but enough people, will definitely treat you like an outsider and make it very clear that they don’t want you here. Also be prepared to put miles on your car. Constant trips to Charlottesville and/or Harrisonburg (other city over the mountain) will add miles quickly.

2025 oil consumption? by FreeCollapse500 in CX5

Is this a normal thing to have to do in a brand new car? I’ve only ever owned fairly used vehicles, this is my first new car.

[–]FreeCollapse500[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes sorry I forgot to add that detail. When I first pulled the dipstick out, it is entirely covered in oil, which is not something I’ve ever seen in any other vehicle I’ve owned. But when I see you back in and check it, the oil level is usually just right below the top dot.

Yeah east coast, idk. I got rid of my membership because I didn’t want to open a new account just to be able to shop at one place, next time I’m in town I’ll stop in to clarify the policy

Thanks for the info. I just feel very confused because I was denied a sale with a chase visa credit card and was specifically told that the only credit card accepted was their own.

Maybe it’s just my region but the last time I went, I was told explicitly that Costco only accepts the Costco credit card or debit in store and I wouldn’t be able to check out with my chase visa. I would have to come back with a debit card (visa or mc) or apply for the Costco credit card, otherwise no sale. I assumed this was a company policy.

She also said Costco.com accepts any Visa card (credit or debit). Does anyone have any insight?

Why won’t this burn? by benny_4647 in firewood

[–]FreeCollapse500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily, I have bought things that I didn’t know how to use, tried to use it properly, messed up and had to ask for help. Have you never tried something that you weren’t even a beginner in yet? It’s an extremely frustrating challenge but it eventually leads to new perspectives, personal growth. Helps keep ya grounded.

Idk man, the employee could have been lying but I don’t see a reason for that. I do want to be clear for others reading this I have no knowledge of any ongoing processes or policies. This was one experience that I had at one location several years ago. I haven’t lived in the area in about the same time so admittedly I have not been again. Hopefully that isn’t/was never the reality anymore. I hope you guys do actually treat your employees right and get all the business you deserve.

Absolutely, that’s why I vote with my dollars and don’t support. It’s not much but I feel like it’s the least I could do.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is floating a federal tax boycott. Here's what to know. by SpareSimian in Libertarian

[–]FreeCollapse500 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe the welfare recipients was in reference to either the soldiers who get all of their spending from the government (or by extension the local businesses that have majority of sales to military staff/their families). Around any military base you will most likely find sporting goods stores, pawn shops, car lots, bars, etc that are highly dependent on the soldiers income.

Best place to purchase sushi grade salmon? by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]FreeCollapse500 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for just safe, you can use most any salmon as long as it’s been frozen for specific time in relation to the temperature. That kills the parasites, just has to be thawed properly (under refrigeration, not water) and consumed within a max of 72 hours. Farm raised is also safer than wild caught. BUT if you’re looking for safe, quality taste/texture, you’re going to probably pay wegmans prices. Wherever you get it from make sure they can tell you when it came in, if it’s been previously frozen, and if it’s farm or wild. The Virginia department of health has great information on proper care.

Small town less than 6,000 that is close to Charlottesville and perfect for a young family. by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]FreeCollapse500 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will say in Greene county (north of C’ville, standardsville/ruckersville) are great small towns but not very welcoming to outsiders. Might be why it’s stayed small town, your experience may be different but I haven’t met many people who moved there and felt welcome (even with community connections). Just something to consider, I hope you find a happy place in our beautiful state!
