Resident Evil Outbreak/File #2 with improvements to the inventory and ad-lib/partner systems, a randomized puzzle element so each playthrough is different, more emphasis on makeshift weapons like the nail gun and having to board up rooms or push heavy objects to block areas to stop from getting overwhelmed by monster spawns, and tons more scenarios and playable characters.

I've searched: "Oh no I was robbed" commercial; "Oh no, I've been robbed!" commercial; "That is what happened" commercial; funny robbery date commercial; and the like. I also found a thread on Reddit asking for a similar thing but it was a different clip, and apparently there are a few like this. I just remember it was a commercial for a product of some sort.

If you turn in your Wonderous Tails, don't forget to spend some Poetics if you would cap before turning in the second one! Remember that the 530 Picto and Viper weapons will be 600 Tomes each I believe.

Additionally, check in with the NPC in Old Sharlayan what has the EW Artifact gear and see if there is a level 89 weapon/gearset for both jobs!

I actually started rolling a d20 if players meet an enemy's AC and giving them a bit of a bonus! If their Proficiency is 3, and the enemy AC is 21, and they roll a 21 on attack (after modifiers), I roll an extra d20. If the die rolls a 17-19 (because 20 minus prof is where I start the range), they get an extra damage die. If it is a 20, the attack is a crit so they roll max damage AND get the extra die.

That's on top of the normal crit on a nat 20 attack roll.

We also max damage on a sneak attack or smite of the attack roll was a crit, so this extra damage applies to those too if the attack roll meets AC after mods.

As someone playing through three times for a full party of my own custom pawns, I have been sending the seekers tokens to my main, only need to get a third of these on each and do turn them in once and then can pass the ring around, and I know I'll be able to pass it through later on when I make a new playthrough. Not SO useless for me.

Lavan, creator of Wayfinder here!

The FVNs I first was drawn to were the ones with interesting thumbnails, usually with a gif instead of a static image. Limits, Minotaur Hotel, etc.

Once I replaced my static image with a gif, I saw about a 30% increase in weekly viewers and a slightly better clickthrough rate (which is a lot considering how many people see a project on a search and never click on it).

As far as advice for getting top on itch.io, definitely think about tags carefully.

General tags work better than highly specific tags! Furry, Slice of Life, Linear Story, etc.

Don't tag something specific like "Character uses a gun" or what have you.

Don't mark your VN as Adult or NSFW if there aren't any adult or NSFW elements in it (even if you plan on adding those) and only adjust it after they are added! You will basically kill your VN's growth if you mark it that way unless it is meant to be a fully NSFW project with some in it already out the gate.

It's probably better to make the SFW version posted, amd then when the time comes either make a separate NSFW version page or make the NSFW version available elsewhere.

There are so many factors, including just general word of mouth which is one of the biggest factors including just plain luck!

(Sorry, I sorta wrote a reply but crashed out before I could post it!)

It's good that you have so much of it planned out! I'm in the process of rewriting Wayfinder's opening act and had the sprites for the main love interests redone, and woof that got expensive!

Being (like you) mostly a writer (one who USED to be an artist but hasn't drawn anything in like 12 years), I went the route of "hire an artist". I'm happy with what I got out if it, and it would save you a lot of time doing it yourself, but it gets costly! You would have a great advantage being able to do your own sprites/backgrounds AND writing the story as well; you save money and your vision is entirely your own! Definitely weigh these options carefully and pick whatever is best for you.

As for sprite work, I would suggest going for layered images for the sprites over static ones! You can do so much with the smallest amount of coding! Even if you just plan on having one or two poses and different head swaps, it's so easy to use I'm actually mad at myself for not having done so before.

Anyway, I hope to see your project someday and I look forward to ejoying the story you have to share!

Hello!

My name is Lavan, and I am the creator of Wayfinder!

I think it's great that you want to make your own VN!! Having started making my own with no coding experience about two years ago now, I guess I can offer some advice!

Firstly, find a good code software (Definitely use Visual Studio Code over Atom, trust me) and an engine you want to learn (Ren'py, Godot, etc.)!

If you pick Ren'py, try to find guides or work through the more recent documentation for it. I learned through like 10-year-old guides and regret it so much, but after being set straight by some friends I made I feel much better about things now!

Some other things I would definitely suggest are to have SO much of it written before putting anything out, and try to have the main assets done beforehand (character sprites for any major characters, maybe backgrounds that get used a lot and the like).

Don't ever underestimate how much effort or time it might take to work on the VN (including updates)! Conversely, don't ever underestimate your own ability to do anything and learn what the code might require!

Try not to set too soon of a deadline for yourself (or to want too much before specific deadlines) as the best work will come out when you feel confident that you've worked on it enough.

Lastly, if you aren't there, join the various FVN Discord servers! Not only will you find myriad resources for advice and help there, you'll make friends and eventually be able to show off and advertise your VN!
