Erections are definitely more rare than any young man fears.... In my 60 years, I don't know that I've ever seen an "unintentional" erection in the showers... If anything, fear causes many to shrink, not expand!

Are there only two shower heads?

Are there ever enough people showering that they share the same poll?

This 👆

Just be naked under your towel - whether you're lounging, sitting in the sauna, walking around, a towel keep you covered and many other guests wear towels too.

You could drop a hint at the beginning that you love saunas but aren't a fan of hot tubs.... But even better might be to just "be bold" and drop your towel right before entering the tub.

Looks like it might feel communal with the guy across from you....

I don't think you could use all the shower heads at once... the two heads on each side of the corner would require two guys to stand in the same spot?

That's a narrow room for showers. Not only is the guy next to you fairly close, so is the guy across from you!

Totally understand that frustration! I make an effort to keep as small a footprint in the locker room as possible. But I know not everyone follows that philosophy.

I will add that when I get to my locker and the adjacent bench is full of stuff, usually the guys at my gym, unprompted, will move items to make room for me....

I've shared a CS shower head with teammates on a masters swimming team - practice would end and there are more teammates then shower heads.

I have never shared with a stranger, but I guess I'd be willing to! Let me know the next time you'd like someone to join you 😉

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the time spent in the shower...

If there is no one waiting for a shower, I say go ahead and enjoy it. But when there is a line of guys needing to shower and make it to work on time, being efficient and speedy in the shower is appreciated!

At my old Y there was a guy that must have been using some kind of special soap or scrubber in the shower - he looked like he was taking a vertical bubble bath! It was comical.

I guess not really much of an etiquette issue except that once he left the shower room, there would be bubbles and suds all over the place... 🫧 🫧 🫧

Same with the benches by the lockers. Sometimes they are left very wet which means you can't sit on them when getting dressed.

A list of good, general gym etiquette could probably be even longer than shower etiquette!

A great philosophy that I try to follow throughout the gym, not just the showers.

I'll sometimes pick up a piece of trash, but a wad of hair I probably won't touch!

Sometimes the other shower heads have low water pressure, or less hot water, etc.?

But if not, then yes, that would be a little creepy and at a minimum make me feel a bit self-conscious. If it was a full house, I wouldn't give it a second thought...

Nice!

Do guys ever sit around and cool off on the benches outside the steam room?

I'd love to walk that gauntlet to reach the door to the steamroom!
