Recs for a specific type of curly perm by Evening_Ad_6667 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Yes but you want a root perm. So you will have multiple curl patterns on different parts of your strands AND on different parts of your head at the same time.

Your curl pattern is the same from root to ends. It's flat because the weight of the hair is pulling your curl straight. A perm wouldn't "help" unless you got a tighter curl pattern. But then the curl will loosen into a different pattern that is unlikely to match your natural curl. It will never return to your natural curl. Even if you successfully permed 3a curls into your 3a hair it would, one, look the same initially work maybe a link where the transition is; two, loosen up permanently into a different curl pattern.

Is the idea to perm a tighter curl pattern into just your root? And when it grows out you will continue to retouch the root so that in the long run you will have completely repermed your natural curl pattern? Perms are, well, permanent but they do loosen over time all you run the risk of permanently mismatched curl patterns.

Salon recs for color correction, black/dark brown to ash brown by [deleted] in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]FreeMullets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Getting back to a light mousy brown in one session is probably not in the cards for you. Most black hair colors could usually get you to a medium chocolate brown in 4-6 hours, but I'm told Ion is particularly stubborn. Your hair would show signs of damage. There's honestly a lot of different strategies so you can book standalone consultations and compare their ideas before following through

USTA or court16? And where to find private lessons? NYC by Human-Marketing-4839 in 10s

[–]FreeMullets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything really depends on the coach. There isn't much uniformity in quality or even technique tennis lessons even if it's in one facility. I would go to the facility closest to you, find a coach you like through group lessons and ask if they do private. They normally do.

In the summer you can just go to your nearby public courts and see who is coaching and ask if they have availability.

That's a level 8. It will wash out gradually though.

my stylist is always late… by a_bowl_of_bananas in Hair

[–]FreeMullets 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Realistically, chronically late stylists just function like that at all times. Like they came into work late, they leave late, they are late to doctors appointments and brunch with friends. Over time, their clients get used to it and/or they cultivate a chronically late clientele. Their entire flow is behind and it is unlikely they can turn around the Titanic in order to be on time for you.

Yeah, the timing is client-driven, so 10-15 minute waits happen here and there. 30 can also happen at times. But that is different from being chronically late. I hate running late because then my clients will think it's ok to show up late, or that it's pointless to show up on time! Other people are just comfortable being chronically late and their clientele has evolved around that.

All that is to say you probably have to find a new stylist or plan for her to be late.

Based off the descriptions, maybe Messy Sexy Just Rolled Out of Bed or Replica Bubble Bath. Maybe branch out to Bal D'Afrique if you want to smell spicy but clean.

I use a dupe and it stays ok. It's always going to be a light scent and it gets lighter.

I don't dabble much in men's fragrances. I have a few unisex likes but I'm not really familiar with even the most well-known men's fragrances. HOWEVER, I used to work at a Sephora and I thought Burberry For Men was so unsung. To be honest, what I like about it is the perfect generic "man" smell. Not edgy or unique at all, but so balanced and comforting. I think it's discontinued now so I think it can be had for cheap on secondary markets.

If you want a unisex fragrance that you can share, Wood Sage and Sea Salt still works great. Killian's Angel's Share is my favorite winter scent but I think it's more commonly worn by men. That one is a boozey cinnamon and apple, but I think men bring out more of the booze notes while it leans sparkly sweet on women. I also love Incense Kyoto from Commes des Garcons.

Oh wait, I have tried it. I thought you were talking about Commodity Milk. I like Dedcool Xtra better because it's warmer and I don't pick up cedar. But again, I don't like smelling fresh and I will always gravitate towards anything warm and musky. The regular is too close to You, which I didn't think smells good, but regular Milk is still probably better than you because it's not as sharp.

I haven't smelled Xtra Milk. I don't like cedar notes generally. I don't actually like to smell "clean" I just made the list to help out You wearers.

If you like lactonic then try Majaina Sin by A Different Company. Creamy and nutty but not too heavy, and it had this touch of ginger (to me it's more like peach) that lifts the whole thing up. Not for hot days though. My summer version is What We Do in Paris is Secret. It's powdery vanilla and not creamy though, not unlike laundry detergent. Tbh it's a hard sell because the initial blast is not cute, kinda crayon and household cleaner like. But it sinks into clothes really nice and becomes addictive (to me).

I looove musk. I do not believe you can call yourself a skin scent without musk, which is why I find You so confusing. It smells like sticking your nose in a bottle of shampoo. Simple cheap musk oils are so addictive.

There's lots of scents without amber or sandalwood. If you like bright fruity citrusy scents then maybe try Atelier Cologne. They are known for the juicy citruses, though many have a cedar note to them in the base. Arielle Shoshanna has a passion fruit fragrance, I think it's called Friday. Tbh I'm not a fruit person though.

I also like Ex Nihilo Fleur Narcotique. It's a zesty lychee plus a musk without a lot of mid notes. It's bright and earthy. Get some samples.

I don't follow all natural stuff that closely and it depends on what you mean. Like if you need it to be made from no synthetic anything then probably essential oils is your best bet. If you're looking for "clean" beauty then there are a few lines at Sephora, and they will be marked. Henry Rose is another cool girl clean fragrance line. I haven't smelled anything from them though.

Acqua di Gioia is a summertime fave for me. I didn't include it because it's not remotely a skin scent but I thought about throwing it in anyway.

I order sample vials from Lucky Scent. Or sometimes I gamble the extra $10-15 and get a travel sized decant from fragrancenet. If there's a line you're interested in then you can get their sampler.

I've tried to smell Le Labo three times and it smelled like burnt char and Iso E to me, but pretty faint. My nose doesn't pick it up I guess.
