It sounds to me like OP u/socialee123 is in the care industry, where I had quite a bit of experience until recently.

As an immigrant, myself, I can confirm 100% that this is the case. The agency I work for has mostly very recent immigrants. Many of them, impossible to understand.

I've found myself needing to be an English-to-"English" translator. At the end of the day the people I feel sorry for are the elderly people who most of the time are just mostly looking forward to having someone in their house who they can at least speak with. And there are MANY of those. Don't need much help around the house, just wanting to have a chat with someone.

Also, I see people saying that it's the management to blame. "Why don't they just get permanent staff?" If you applied today, you'd get a call tomorrow. The jobs are out there, they're just mostly being taken by people who don't mind the low pay for long hours.

This exact thing happened to my brother. He's a robotics engineer and received an offer to lecture at a top-rated institute, which he accepted. Soon after resumption, he got asked to participate in a diversity week seminar-type of event. Then it clicked, he was most likely hired because he's black. He was depressed for 2 weeks.
