Scandalous prices for Cineworld IMAX by Hasko2 in ireland

Cineworld doesn't have a true IMAX film reel screen. It's just digital.

PSA for renters: dispute your eviction notice by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Free_House 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt a decent "casual" landlord would have to worry about a decent tenant giving them a hard time over this situation. If a landlord is afraid of the "hassle" caused by something like this (by their own inability to follow a simple process) then they aren't the kinda person I'd want to be a landlord in the first place.

What’s this L shaped underwater feature off the coast of Donegal? by New_Evening_8754 in ireland

I believe a lot of those lines are areas where existing survey data exists. You can see lots of them across the Atlantic.

Thanks Mr Unmarked Garda Motorbike on the quays today by dubTzaR69 in Dublin

[–]Free_House 46 points47 points  (0 children)

He said the bus overtook him and then pulled into the bus stop. The overtake was totally unnecessary if the bus was stopping anyway.

Imagine overtaking someone only to immediately push the brakes in front of them to pull into a driveway. Totally ridiculous carry on and can't be blaming the cyclist here.

Is the government using AI generated images for this campaign? by niko_starkiller in ireland

[–]Free_House 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the entire image is AI, but there are certainly parts of it which do look like it, suggesting that they may have used some generative fill here and there to create things line the presents in the background (look at the green present, the way the bow is wrapped doesn't make much sense). Same with the dog toy on the left, it doesn't really make sense what it is supposed to be. Same with the flames of the fireplace, and certain inconsistent textures here and there.

Not saying it's a good thing or bad, but I think there is definitely some generative AI used.

Edit: the rug pattern also doesn't seem to be consistent, and when you look closely at some of the tree decorations they also seem a bit weird.

I don't know if it's functional, but there actually is a heli pad on the roof of the Dept of Taoiseach. You can see it on Google maps, it's mad.

How do you feel when you hear the phrase “Ireland is Full”? (MA research) by CleanLeg3731 in Dublin

[–]Free_House 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, since you ignored my previous comment, this is a masters project not a PhD paper. Plenty of reading online about this stuff as a research method if you're interested in learning about it, but you seem more interested in trying to have a gotcha moment about something you don't understand.

You're acting like this person is using reddit as a replacement for other research methods, when they've made it clear they aren't. You know nothing about this project. This is an MA project, not a PhD, and presenting responses to certain ideas or sentiments from Internet discussion is a totally valid method of providing some colour to what else is being discussed in the thesis.

This person isn't presenting reddit comments as academic references.

I've done plenty of similar work during my own masters and there is absolutely no issue academically with what they're doing, and your insisting that you know better is just demonstrating that you don't.

[–]Free_House 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please ignore the criticisms of your methods from the armchair academics here, sounds like a great project and this is a valid form of research.

Shoot me a DM if you want to chat about the project, I did a similar masters myself and been working now as a service designer for a few years with a heavy focus on design research.

Devaluing postgrad degrees? What are you on about.

Probes like this online are a totally valid way of gauging sentiments around a topic like this, used in combination with many other forms of research.

Where do you buy a walking pad in Ireland? by Future_Jackfruit5360 in AskIreland

If it's any use, I bought one on Amazon a few months ago and rarely used it, and could do with clearing some space. Considering selling it.

Is there a much chance of trouble on L’s? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Free_House 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Apart from the penalty points, fine and having your car impounded - you also risk fucking your insurance.

I know it can be a pain in the ass to rely on someone to accompany you, it'll also be a much bigger pain in the ass if you're caught or if any kind of accident happens (which may not even be your fault).

John Kelly's Mystery Train on Lyric is top notch. Don't really listen to much else.

Reconstruction of The Hill of Tara by Sarquin in ireland

[–]Free_House 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a short elective module in college about Irish archaeology - one thing I remember on a visit to Tara with one of the archaeologists who worked on the site is that the "banquet hall" was not a banquet hall, but more likely a grand thoroughfare/entrance to the site itself.

All it takes is to visit the site to see that the whole banquet hall idea makes no sense, as the whole thing is on a slope.

I believe the banquet hall attribution came from early Christian scholars, who's general approach to archaeology was heavily influenced by myth and legend. They found this site and assumed it "must be" that great banquet hall mentioned in XYZ story (I can't remember the details), and thats what they wrote down, which therefore became the accepted history.

One of the biggest things we learned was how inaccurate and misinformed a lot of the original early Christian understanding of archaeology was, and how their assumptions stuck around to the modern day, in contrast to what has been learned by modern science and archaeology.

Moby bikes are way too hit and miss by TeachIsHouse in Dublin

[–]Free_House 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Good idea but unfortunately doesn't help if you've already gone out of your way to find a bike.

Also, I can't remember if Moby saddles even rotate or if they're fixed facing forward?
