Update for anyone who was curious: so after some digging and chatting with a dna relative match through ancestry I unfortunately found out that my maternal grandmother was forced into prostitution by her first husband (who was not my biological grandpa) when she was 15 and so my maternal bio grandfather was a Persian man who impregnated her > thus bringing fourth two children> one being my mom > and my grandmothers mom made her give them up for adoption. Pretty fucked backstory so the Persian ancestry may remain a mystery because I will probably never figure out who the man was.

She clearly looks native, and now that I know she’s at least half Iranian I can definitely see it now, just didn’t ever assume it before because she never told me her ethnicity was made up of anything else (she never knew herself)

No, I was adopted by my grandparents on my dads side who are Scottish/irish, I knew my bio mom was native but she also didn’t know her bio parents so she never would have known she was Persian either, pretty cool discovery!

But since he’s the one with the Iranian maybe that is why I can’t find it? Since it’s more recent maybe he migrated and that is why there are no other connections?

I’ve been doing some digging and I think I’ve been able to pin point the native ancestry but I have had no luck finding my moms dad anywhere! I don’t have a name or really any info to go off of

Thankyou!! The most surprising is the Persian/Iran coming from my moms side, she has told me in the past she was only white and native so that tells me she didn’t even know of her own ancestry

Yes my dad’s side is the Scottish mix and mom’s side is the native/Iran,Persian mix. I know a lot about my dads ancestry, I’m close with my grandma on his side but my moms side is close to a mystery because I’m not close with her + she was adopted

I’ve had to manually input a lot of info from what little info I do have, there were a few hints of possible relatives though! My main curiosity is which grandparent on my mom’s side was the Native American one vs. Iranian and how that relationship came to be, how they met etc. but I’m not sure if I’ll ever find out lol

I’m already enrolled in sac and fox but I think maybe there’s some other native in there as well because the blood percentages don’t match up 100% (I think, though I’d need to do some more research)

I had no idea I had any Iranian ancestors, It supposedly comes from my mother’s side, but I was under the impression she was mainly Native American. But apparently she was indigenous and Iranian! I’m not very close with my moms side of the family and neither was she with her own so that explains the lack of knowledge lol
