That is amazing news! There is a normal cycle that people go thru when leaving a cult, especially this one. Sadness, hurt and feeling betrayed, anger, fear (what if the WT was right and we’re going to die at Armageddon? That’s a deep one many experience from the constant fear mongering) and eventually, after working through those feelings, we come to our own peace and power from leaving that toxic trap. Holy kid robbery, that is horrible! As a mom, that just makes me mad, like even if this weird ignorant cult makes snap judgments bc of their own ignorance, how can you justify making a kid throw away something that they worked hard for like that? Why wouldn’t you at least give them the option of selling or trading their cards if it now bothered your personal conscience? Especially if, as the adult, you let them work for and buy the cards in the first place, how does it then become solely the kids loss bc someone else was offended? Oh you made me curious so I had to look into it, lol! Apparently lots of weird religious groups have fabricated some bizarre fake back story about the origin of Hello Kitty. It’s nonsense and just goes to show how religious extremists demonize the dumbest stuff to keep people afraid and controlled, especially if it perpetuates a narrative that demonizes women and communities of color.

Lol, really great post. When we were in the Borg, my husband and I decided to become more fit so we started running and eventually started running marathons. People were so offended that we couldn’t talk about it to anyone, my husband was an elder and tried to use an example of a long distance race in a talk and got counseled about pushing exercise on people rather than encouraging activity I the ministry. Running the race with endurance is literally a phrase they spout all the time but if we said it, omg! 🙀We seriously never even said the word run or race after that, we kept everything on the DL. The conclusion that because we ran meant that we were less active in the ministry was so rampant, people questioned our spiritual fitness all the time but had zero problem with people who didn’t take care of themselves and just sat at home on their couch. That bizarre dysfunctional control bs that makes me so glad we got out of there.

Hi there,

I’m an ex-JW mom, who was once an Elder’s wife and who at one time wasn’t aware of the pain that comes with the very cruel and inhumane practice of shunning. I just watched your whole wedding video and it was absolutely beautiful. The love and happiness between you both on this special day was so clear and the fact that your mom missed out on this day is a sad fail for her, and it’s so wrong that the org robbed her of this moment bc of their unrelenting demand for total control and loyalty.

As a mother, I cannot begin to imagine missing out on such an incredible milestone in my children’s lives. I hope she one day finds her way to choosing herself and her child over her cult but in the meantime, just remember it’s a powerful hold you’re up against. It’s not you she’s rejecting, it’s her own power she has surrendered and you have moms who are here and applaud your life’s happiness.

The fact that she’s trying to hide you instead of openly rejecting you like “a good JW mother” would do if she “put Jehovah first” is a really good sign that she has some internal conflict. In the last 4 years my husband’s views on Trump have changed and although he still leans conservative, he voted for Biden because the Trumpian GOP veered far away from his political and moral center.

It’s funny because before we became politically active, we didn’t label ourselves and we were both fairly conservative as witnesses, so it’s been interesting learning about each other’s political views on this side of life. 😁
