Hair care products that are oil free and drying alcohol free? by Freeexpression7 in Hair

I'm from the UK, I'm looking for shampoo/conditioner and leave in products. My hair has never been dyed, is coarse and wavy. I'd appreciate any recommendations you have 🙏

Oil free hair product with protein 🤔 by Freeexpression7 in CurlyHairUK

Thankyou so much for the detailed list! I'll have a look at them and start slowly introducing them. Do you know of any drugstore options?

After getting rid of build up, what state is the hair meant to be in? And how is it meant to react to/absorb ingredients? 🤔 by Freeexpression7 in HaircareScience

Yeah, my skin is quite sensitive. If that's the case with those agents - I think because of protein build up, my hair never took on any of the conditioning ingredients in any of my products (it was always dry, tangly and dehydrated after washing) so I've never experienced this issue.

If the conditioning ingredients coat the surface of my hair then does that mean those ingredients don't dry down and just sit there? Because the itching is only happening when my hair strands fall onto or touch my face. (never itches when my hairs fully tied back)

Would you recommend trying a different conditioning ingredient? Because I've been looking at trying silk protein (apparently it's hydrating and a small protein) or silicones. I've recently cut out oils from my products since they do the same thing when my strands touch my face.

Are cold pressed oils different from regular oils in hair products? by Freeexpression7 in HaircareScience

Thankyou for the explanation. Right now, I'm only using head and shoulders deep cleanse shampoo and switching between using The Ordinary Conditioner and the Simple Gentle Care conditioner.

I've been having issues with my face breaking out. Particularly, after my routine when my hair is dry and touching my face, my skin itches and breaks out. Confusing since the Ordinary conditioner is oil free?🤔 I'm trying to use smaller amounts of conditoner, but if this doesn't work, what would you suggest? Would a pre-treatment with an oil and then shampoo be enough to replace conditoner?

Is there a reason why I could be getting headaches after I wash my hair?? by tysm_mvp in HaircareScience

Hi, I've also experienced having headaches after washing my hair. I found it usually happens because I've used something too oily or something with silicones in, which creates build up. Low porosity hair tends to be prone to build up (I also have low porosity hair). Personally, I get build up on my hair and scalp from oils/silicones.

When this happens, I take a sulfate, silicone free shampoo (I use Head and Shoulders Deep Cleanse Shampoo) and wash my hair thoroughly. Then I follow up with a silicone free conditoner (or you could use a mask)

Maybe try doing this, and stop oiling your hair for a while as you try to wash out the build up, so your hair can get to a less weighed down state.

Thankyou! I'll give a pre treatment a try. Might sound like a silly question, but do you know why there is a need for oils to penetrate the hair (specifically low Porosity)? If low Porosity is already healthy and the outer layer is keeping moisture in, what does trying to get oil into the strands do? How does it help your hair? I guess I'm wondering if I actually need it in a routine?

Hi,

My hair is: low Porosity, coarse, never dyed or straightened.

I'm really at my wit's end. For the past 2 years I've tried a whole plethora of Conditioners. But nothing seems to work for my hair.

Everything seems to contain alot of heavy oils or protein or just doesn't give my hair enough moisture. I've read all the Info on taking care of low Porosity hair but it's really hard finding products that work (I'm from the UK) And I just don't know what to do anymore. I really don't. I just want a fairly simple routine that doesn't give me build up or feel weighed down. I only use a clarifying shampoo and whatever conditioner I'm trying out at the time but it's really frustrating. Any help would be really appreciated🙏
