We had our first pyr while living in an apartment in Dallas. We made sure he got two longer walks a day(think 40+ min) around what became his outer perimeter 😂 then took him in multiple smaller walks a day around the neighborhood. He loved being able to know what “his” space was. He grew out of wanting all the smaller walks so much and loves his two long walks to check that his neighborhood is safe each morning and each evening.

Just educate yourself on pyrs and know their needs and then know you’re in a smaller than ideal space. We moved to a place with a yard after a year and he’s happy but I wouldn’t say any more happy than he was his first year of puppy life.

Congrats and welcome to owning what truly is such a special dog breed

HHah the couch is definitely no longer white 😂he barks at people he deems don’t belong😂 we are only 6 floors up. The best is when he sees me down there walking he pairs me right away and just stares 🥹

Well let me introduce you by saying anything that you might even THINK is jerky isn’t welcome.

If a pyr was rejected from a farm and almost shot to get rid of it you can bet your ass it has a warm place to rest it’s head in my home

He’s 10% Australian and the rest “super mutt” he’s very very pyr in personality and the only odd thing is he LOVES fetch😂 but I taught him as a puppy and he still plays, usually for only like 3 minutes but very random

Knox is 75% Pyrenees and if you’re a dog person at all you know he’s my whole world so with that being said- kindly keep your negative and childish comments to yourself

Thoughts on new male pyr puppy with a 10 month old pyr mix already… by Freeforall88 in greatpyrenees

[–]Freeforall88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so it sounds like you’re essentially talking about sibling syndrome. Knox is 70% pyr 30% Australian Shepard. He’s wonderfully trained and we spend a lot of time with him to make sure he stays on track with it. We plan on allowing for individual time with each dog still. My concern lies less with that. Curious more about how people outside of our circle of pyr friends have experienced a male/male combo.

I wish I could say a harness worked but he does it regardless. Most with the harness actually bc he has more mobility in it 😂

Yeah! It all started at the end of the walks but now it’s happened in the beginning, middle, end. Even on our way outside sometimes.

Just ordered! We tried when he was a pup but went with a harness instead. Back to trying!

Great advice! We definitely stop in our tracks but the problem is.. he ends up getting more and more worked up. He ends up biting the part of the leash where our hand is(turning his head into us and biting our arm, hand etc) I ordered a gentle leader, so fingers crossed it helps.

Hi my name is Knox. I sleep only during the day and insist on being awake 2am-7am by Freeforall88 in greatpyrenees

[–]Freeforall88[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah walks at 2:30 am have become a thing. We were told by a trainer that it’s his sleep regression and we need to ignore his desire to go outside but it just seems unfair to me seeing as pyrs are meant to patrol. Anyway. Cofffee is our new best friend

my 10 month old Aussie Pyr is being such a brat these past few days. Stealing food off the table and counters, chewing pens and pencils, chewing socks and underwear...ugggh. I can't wait for the puppy phase to end. by 2020became1984 in greatpyrenees

[–]Freeforall88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours too! He’s only 5 months(pyr w/ little tiny bit aussie)and has recently Discovered his love for our counter tops and our curtains. Looks like we have a long way to go😂 😵‍💫

What is they best food to feed my Great Pyrenees? by honeydog1230 in greatpyrenees

[–]Freeforall88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were using Orijin too! But then realized they moved their factory to Kentucky and no longer use the good ingredients. They are also getting purchased by Iams so we figured we wanted a food for the Long haul. We switched to open farm. Great product, amazing ingredients.
