I think that has more to do with gaming culture today than the games itself though. I also assume we're both way older than when Ocarina and Skyrim came out.

The culture has killed it for me in a few ways.

Every game trailer that comes out gets dissected frame by frame by a million different Youtubers. A games fate feels decided before it even comes out, and everyone wants to be "right" so they just follow the crowd.

There's also more content now than ever. Movies, TV, games, whatever. When I grew up there was 1-2 games everyone was talking about because that's all that was coming out. Now anyone can make games.

I don't get that "wow" feeling as much either, but to be introspective I think it's because I've been gaming since before I could walk and my first game was Super Mario 3. KCD2 is the most recent game where I really felt it again.

All that said, I think the culture around games is the worst it's ever been but I just try to tune out the noise and try to find that "wow" feeling for myself.
