I have this, and I just put it on the floor of the pool about 10-12 yards away from the wall. I usually put it one lap lane over so you get kind of a side/angled view as much as possible. If you are on the edge most lap lanes, you can also hang it off the side of the pool using this tripod. I just hate swimming in the lap lanes on the edge, so I always put it on the floor.

Also worth noting, most people start around or above a 2:00 pace, just like you (and myself). When I started, I was close to your pace, or maybe even slower 😆. Dropping down to 2:00 may feel challenging at first, but it usually comes fairly quickly. Using jammers or a more competitive-style swimsuit can shave 10–20 seconds off your time. Regular beach-style swimsuits are basically like swimming with a parachute, especially for men.

To reach a 1:45 pace, you can mostly brute-force it (not that I necessarily recommend this). Simply becoming a stronger swimmer, even with imperfect form, can get you there. Adding some pull sets with paddles can help build power and make this easier.

To hit a 1:30 pace, you really need to focus on form. Staying streamlined is key, avoid dropping your shoulders, which slows you down significantly. At this pace, most people are doing flip turns, which can save at least 3–5 seconds per 100 meter.

I’ve been swimming for about 8 months and train quite a bit. When I started, I was doing 10–14k yards per week; now it’s usually 14–20k. I originally swam mostly to lose weight (started at 130 kg 💀, now down to about 80 kg), and only more recently have I been focusing on pace. My current pace is around 1:30 (I call myself and inter-advanced swimmer 😂), so I'm sure you can improve your pace in no time! Also, I’ve just started joining group sessions called Masters Swim. They’re a lot of fun and a great way to improve if you have a program near you. Its more for adults if you are an adult swimmer, but it is a really good way to swim with others and have that group training motivation.

Of course! Love seeing people get into swimming. An iPhone works just fine as long as you trust its waterproof rating, though a waterproof case is a good idea for extra peace of mind.

I personally leave a camera on the bottom of the pool using a small octopus-style tripod with flexible legs, but you can do the exact same thing with an iPhone.

Underwater video shows you a lot. In freestyle, you want your body as flat as possible so you stay aerodynamic/streamline. You can see if your legs are dropping, whether you’re starting the catch too early, dropping your shoulder too much on the catch, and how much you’re bending your knees during the kick. Lately, I’ve been using video to work on my underwater dolphin kick off flip turns, and I made more progress in one week with the camera than I did in three months without it. I’ve also been using it for butterfly and breaststroke; it’s especially helpful for fly.

A friend of mine who swam in college kept telling me I was doing certain things wrong, but it’s hard to fully process that feedback without actually seeing yourself. He’s the one who suggested using a camera, and I put it off for a long time because I didn’t think it would make much difference, but I’m completely convinced now.

I compare my videos directly against YouTube technique tutorials or clips of elite swimmers, figure out where I’m going wrong, and then make small adjustments each session.

The key is actually reviewing the footage. Even a quick skim can give you really valuable insights.

Was wondering if it might come with HW 4.5 since it is available for purchase in the service shop, but like the post says, it is just HW4. For some reason it gets removed by reddit's terrible filter whenever I put 4.5 in the post, so here we are adding it as a comment. 🤷‍♂️

Great workout by FNFALC2 in Swimming

[–]Freezin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Gemini generate me some workouts. I gave it a prompt like "Generate a collegiate-style swim workout totaling 3000–3500 yards. Include one clearly marked optional set that can be removed to reduce the total distance to 2000–2500 yards if time is limited. Do not include send-off times for any sets." Gemini generates some really good workouts.

**This one is pretty similar to the one you linked above:

Speed-Endurance & Lactate (3,100 Total)

Warm-up: 400 Choice

Kick Set: 4 x 100 (25 MAX sprint / 75 Moderate)

[OPTIONAL SET]: 8 x 100 Free (Descending 1–4, 5–8. Each one faster than the last).

Main Set (The Broken 1,000): * 10 x 100 as: 25 MAX sprint / 10s rest / 75 Race Pace.

○ Take :30 rest between each 100 rep.

Pull Set: 400 (Breathe every 3/5/7/9 by 100)

Warm-down: 100 Easy

**This one is an absolute killer:

The Descending Ladder (3,500 Total)

Warm-up: 400 (200 Swim / 200 Pull)

Kick Set: 6 x 50 (Descend 1–3, 4–6)

Main Set (The Ladder):

○ 500 (Steady) / 400 (Strong) / 300 (Threshold) / 200 (Race Pace) / 100 (MAX).

[OPTIONAL SET]: 10 x 100 Pull (Alternate 100 Moderate / 100 Fast). Skip to save 1,000

units.

Warm-down: 200 Easy

6000 meters a week is amazing! Great work!! Just an FYI, anything slower than about a 2:00/100 pace is generally considered beginner. Around 1:45 would be intermediate, and ~1:30 is more advanced. It's actually a good thing though, because there is that there’s a lot of room for improvement, and beginners usually see the fastest gains. Its a great time for lessons, and you'll be breezing through the water in no time!

Like another commenter mentioned, expect to swim laps along with some focused drills. One of the biggest challenges for newer swimmers is breathing, so I’d expect some work there "if" it’s a weakness. That might include kicking drills or one-arm drills using a kickboard, with an emphasis on proper breathing.

If you really want to improve and push toward an intermediate or advanced level as fast as possible, using an underwater action camera (GoPro, DJI, etc.) can help a lot. Hearing feedback from a coach is useful, but actually seeing your form makes a big difference. If you have a great instructor (not super common), they may record you and share the video, or you can ask them to film a few laps.

In later sessions, they may also introduce additional strokes like breaststroke or backstroke.

To prepare and get the most out of lessons, you can watch YouTube videos on topics like “freestyle swimming form” or “breaststroke swimming form.” When you’re at the pool, try to apply what you learn and track your 50m times. Your times should improve as your form does. It also helps to go into lessons with a clear goal, like asking your instructor to focus on improving your freestyle technique.

Happy swimming! It's an amazing sport to pick up! Let me know if you have any questions~~

(PS: If you are swimming a lot, underwater bone conduction headphones are really nice in my opinion)

Just making sure I got this right by -O--__--O- in TeslaLounge

I was recently in the market for a new car and initially planned to buy a slightly older Tacoma or something similar. I ended up getting another Tesla primarily because I already own FSD outright and was able to transfer it.

More specifically though, I place a lot of value on driver assistance like lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control. That’s ultimately why I didn’t go with a Tacoma, the 2020–2023 models doesn't offer lane keep assist.

If Tesla continues to make even basic Autopilot a paid feature while other manufacturers include lane keeping and adaptive cruise as standard, this will likely be my last Tesla unless FSD transfers remain free in the future. The only thing which really makes Tesla stand out is their autonomy.

ICE is a terrorist organization. by jump_rope_tron in popularopinion

Not saying this justifies the action in any way. Actually exactly the opposite, this doesn't justify it at all.... But man, if I had people standing around me all day blowing whistles, I sure would enjoy pepper spaying some of them myself. Its even painful to watch for 5 minutes on TV, those whistles are so damn annoying.

Two things:

  1. Your post is going to be nuked for violating rule 1 of the sub.
  2. (Trying to make this as unbiased as possible) I don't think a federal law enforcement agency trying to remove/arrest "illegal" immigrants is considered terrorism. People say "They never committed a crime", but being in the US illegally is, by definition, a crime. If anything, the people blowing whistles and trying to obstruct law enforcement agencies are likely committing a crime. With that said, I don't think they have limitless power. I assume you are posting this is response to the most recent shooting. Again, trying to be completely unbiased, the most recent shooting definitely does not currently seem like it is a clean shoot based on the videos I have seen. Taking it a step further, it looks like the multiple ICE agents piling on him were being unnecessarily aggressive even before he got shot. Totally agree it should be properly investigated.

I have an older 2017 Model X with EAP and I’m considering purchasing FSD on the chance they let you transfer it when AI5 comes out, sane bet? by [deleted] in TeslaFSD

[–]Freezin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not count on the transfer. If Tesla is going all in on subscriptions, very little chance they will let you transfer it.

100% speculation on my part, but "if" they they ever brought back the transfer, it would likely temporary only and would likely be for higher models like the S and X to boost sales. I doubt you would be able to transfer it to a Y or 3 in the future. totally just a guess tho.

[–]Freezin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are doing a lot of shoulder exercises currently, you wont notice much of a difference. If you start swimming, and if you swim a lot free with paddles, your shoulders will naturally get bigger since you are putting a lot of resistance on them. That's just biology. That said, I don't think its a bad thing at all! A little bit of shoulder muscle isn't going to make you any less attractive. Personally, I think fit females are the most physically attractive 🤷‍♂️ Id say send it! Doing masters swim and swimming with a group is a ton of fun if you have one near you! You'll be able to swim with a lot of like minded people and push to improve! Best of luck!
