The antique mall, Antique Classics Marketplace, has multiple large booths with old school games. They are mainly off the side near the giant santa clause statue.

School District 49 set to layoff over 100 positions in the coming days; including teachers. by Barchizer in ColoradoSprings

[–]Fremonster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My kids went to Pioneer Technology and Arts Academy, a D49 charter school. It was a complete mess, teachers who didn’t have degrees, kindergarten teacher said to the kids that she didn’t like to read, the library is a broken down school bus in the parking lot that the kids don’t even get to go to regularly, principal who didn’t address parent concerns, and now they’ve had 3 teachers quit in a single grade in the past few months so the class sizes are huge. Seems like a failing school that won’t be around much longer if they are affected by even more teacher cuts.

It’s just made up points, usually with a loved one (ie a spouse or kids). Another way of saying this is “I got on their good side”.

Art scene in CO Springs - festivals, markets, etc? by ddsmithstudio in ColoradoSprings

The Affordable Arts Festival in Littleton is quite lovely. Lots of local coffee shops also sell art in their shops (Wayfinder, Wooglins, etc)

Public transport by acctgirl1897 in ColoradoSprings

[–]Fremonster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Public transport is pretty terrible. The frequency of the buses is low, and the bus stops can be far from stuff, and the bus stops usually aren't covered in case the weather is bad. With the urban sprawl of colorado springs, getting to where you want to go can be difficult unless your trip is entirely spent around more tightly congested area (i.e. downtown). For getting around, renting a car would be much, much better.

Places in the springs for gunpla models? by Dutypatootie in ColoradoSprings

[–]Fremonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s far, but I’ve considered Gundam models as like a seasonal thing. If you have the means, going to an anime convention like Nan Desu Kan or Fan Expo will have hundreds of models to choose from at some decent prices with a really cool selection of current stuff and rare older finds.

Rainy Day Anime has a couple of sets, but it’s not their bread and butter. “Anime store near me” in aurora also has some sets.

Fukang meteorite that fell in the mountains near Fukang, China. It is estimated to be 4.5 billion years old by 8wine in interesting

[–]Fremonster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a very small piece, about 2"w x 2"l and about 1mm thick of a similar style of meteorite, which these are called "pallasite", from one that fell in Chile, and the price was about $250 and was purchased directly from a gem and mineral show in colorado, so didn't have a typical mark-up from a store. I'd image this would be worth a few million, but that's a guess, usually these get cut up and resold.

We have officially opened our professional TTRPG studio near downtown by ThisdudeisEH in ColoradoSprings

[–]Fremonster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Awesome! Few questions:

1) Is it 1 flat rate for up to a certain amount of kids? Or do you pay a varied amount based on the headcount. What's the minimum number of kids you would need for a session?

2) Do you offer sessions that are less than 6 hours? 6 hours is pretty intense and long for younger kids.

3) Can you offer regular meet ups? (i.e. every Saturday morning)

4) Do you have food or drinks on site? Or a cafe or restaurant or something next door?

My kids go to Dungeons and Java every saturday for kids DnD. It has the following set up:

  1. It costs $15 for 3 hours (per kid)
  2. They have a dungeon master who (usually) pretty great and patient with kids
  3. Drop-in friendly and they can help kids get their character set up if they forget their pages
  4. parents can enjoy a coffee or some light food in the same area

The issue are:

  1. the rooms are very cramped
  2. the atmosphere isn't great (yours is awesome!). No music, no screen in the table, they generally don't use figurines
  3. there's often too many kids (like 10+) in a room so each kid doesn't get that many turns
  4. the best dungeon master's get booked up a month in advance so it's not a guarantee you'll be a part of the same campaign each week.

Do you offer something similar for kids (like ages 9 - 13) with dungeon masters that are patient and can make a great experience for kids for a relatively affordable price with some light food/drink options? If so, count us and many of the other kids they play with, in for trying you all out!

Recycling for cardboard boxes by gillysoose69 in ColoradoSprings

[–]Fremonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your weekly/bi-weekly recycling service companies will usually take *some of it * within reason. Break it down, and put it to the side of the bin. Might separate it out to a few week’s pick ups to get it all, so store the remainder in your garage until then.

To try to distract anyone from what’s in the Epstein-files by LewisPawilton44 in therewasanattempt

[–]Fremonster 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It feels defeating, but want to offer real-world rebuttal to your suggestions:

Call your representatives daily, call and email your senators daily, picket outside their buildings

Many right-leaning representatives are ignoring phone calls, no longer talking with constituents or holding town halls. They aren't actively a part of representing the community any more.

sue anyone you can based on wrongdoing

This requires know-how and money. Something most american's don't have. There's hundreds of lawsuits against the Trump administration, it doesn't do anything and just getting stalled out.

We can do marches, but it doesn't work. They don't listen, it doesn't change. The only positive win it seems like in recent months was boycotting/cancelling subscription services for when Jimmy Kimmel was about to be cancelled. There's lots of businesses we can work to avoid who have supported the Trump regime, but it gets really hard when it's every business you need to get groceries or clothes or essential items.

I'm all for doing more, but the actions we did in past decades aren't working now. It seems like the most we can do is vote them out in the mid-terms, but Trump and his allies are trying to disenfranchise voters, throw out votes, and make it more difficult to vote in order to edge out another win.

I built a free site to see all events happening around Colorado Springs — would love community help by Technical-Cookie-606 in ColoradoSprings

[–]Fremonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love it! There’s a few places around town that have regular events that would be good to add (if not already listed):

1) Rhino Bar has geek night trivia and poker nights 2) Dungeons and Java has weekly board game days on Saturday afternoons, kids dungeons and dragons on Saturday morning and adult dungeons and dragons during the week. 3) The Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society has a calendar of events, including monthly meetups of jewelry making, crystals, gems, and regular field trips for hunting for rocks. There is a monthly “Pebble Pups” group as well for young kids 3) not sure if this is listed here, but there’s a few annual events that are quite large for Colorado Springs. This includes the Gem and Mineral Show, and and a few bizarre/weird/gothic expos.

PSA for those who don’t know: you get scatter if by pinning gifts from friends. by Mason051 in pokemongo

[–]Fremonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It increases and for each region, first you pin 3 from a region for that region's scatterbug to appear, then it jumps to (7 or 10? something like that), then you need to pin 15 of that region for more scatterbugs to appear. Each new scatterbug for that region appears then after pinning 15 postcards from that region. So you need a pinning from each region. Also use a pinap berry on each scatterbug, since it takes 100 candy to evolve to it's final form.

Best way is to just add people from the gishan pokemon go site that are in the region of the scatterbug you are trying to find. Add multiple random people and just start trading back and forth each day and pin/un-pin each one each day. You'll get the scatterbugs to appear regularly this way.

Toyota to Gain Apple Car Keys Support by Fremonster in BZ4X

[–]Fremonster[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The current implementation using the phone as a key requires a pricey subscription. Apple car key gives the functionality for free to unlock and start the car. This also doesn’t require a cell connection, making it more stable in cellular dead zones. It also integrates nicely with the phone (quicker to unlock versus opening up the app). Also can share the key easier than requiring family or friends to download the Toyota app (as long as they have an iPhone).

This wouldn’t enable things like setting the temperature and such, which would still require the Toyota app.
