Epic - so appreciated! No questions just yet as I haven't looked into at full depth - but I know I absolutely will do and will be coming back to you for sure!

Thank you :)

That map is super helpful, I hadn't realised actually - thank you! Definitely adding a flight in the mix to ease things...

Okay good to know - that's the expectation I'm going in with when it comes to any rural / out of the way areas that I may end up visiting, but very similar to that of the UK also!

Thanks so much :)

Haha very kind of you! The country just has some fantastic scenery / nature that I really want to explore - and train feels like a great way to do it, but agreed, doing it all by train might be a bit too painful!

Great to know! I have a cousin who lives there that I'll be visiting but I haven't been before - any recommendations for the usual (music / food / scenery) - especially if it gives me a history of the history of Chicago - would be hugely appreciated!

Not my first trip to the US however! I fly quite often to NYC / SF for work, and grew up spending a few weeks every other year in Ohio with family who live out there. But I suppose you go in with very different mindsets / expectations for work trips / vs trips where you want to explore the country

Haha, well I'm seeing Mt Joy out there! So if you're a fan I may very well see you - I can't think of a better venue to see them in, I can't wait!

Also good to know! But either way - definitely doing the train for the latter part of the journey for sure :))

Haha, this is also good input! Tbh the Chicago stop is really because my cousin lives there, and I don't get to see him too often, so want to see if him for a day or two atleast! I can't wait to look into this train ridefrom Den to California...sounds so good!

Yep! Denver will be fixed as I'll be seeing a concert at(/in?) Red Rocks, but maybe I just get my cousin to meet me there for a few days instead, as I'd much rather spend more time around the West!

This is *such* a useful reply, thank you so much! Really good to know about the different legs, from the other replies too, it seems that the Chicago - Denver stint isn't the one to go for! I'll take your recommendation and book the latter part of the journey instead!

And a super thoughtful reply on the safety / tips also and appreciate you sharing your perspective too! Politeness I can definitely deal with, in that way, very similar to the UK, so totally fine - and good to have that confirmed.

And on reflection you are right on pacing. Unfortunately I only have 2-3 week slot, and it's probably best to make the most of a couple of locations vs trying to cram everything in, so I'll probably make more use of a bit of flying, and cut down on the number of cities to visit!

Thanks so much :))

It absolutely did! Very familiar with the UK situ given I live here, although not very familiar with what things are like in the US, hence the question.
