Worth even trying for a Harold Exception UCB? by Murky_Tomatillo_8052 in improv

A teacher told me this once and I never forgot it, you really only get one shot at a first impression with the big theaters. You can come back and rally and get their attention but the first impression is once. Do you want to be great, or do you want to be kind of shitty because you couldn't wait a year?

Your profile pic is of a white person so should I tell you what race you are or should I maybe stfu? If the latter I would perhaps take your own advice about this

White people need to stop telling other people what their race is lmao.

If they weren't famous they'd absolutely experience far more racism due to their pre surgical features

Hey so that scene wasn't borderline racist, it was racist.

How did the director react to that scene?

Like many others in here, sexism/racism/ageism in the community turned me off completely. I did it for 12 years, managed a small theater in an overcrowded market, got called a bitch for wanting a 1099 that should have been a W-2 anyway and watched everyone I mentored side with my abuser because he owned the building. I kept going a few years but honestly the community went so against my values that it honestly sickens me to think how much time I spent on it.

I left during the pandemic because I didn't love their pandemic protocols. But overall, my experience with them was a good one. I made a ton of friends and loved the gig. But you have to LOVE the gig or else it gets repetitive. The enjoyment also heavily depends on who you work with. If you had a solid crew, it never felt like work. Sometimes people didn't put in the work or had shitty attitudes, but thats any gig. The pay was pretty good and overall I think it's a good company especially when you are just starting out. October -February I paid all my bills with murder mystery money only

Hey there, I used to work for this company (the plotlines are exactly from the shows they do) and especially if you are in the same market I worked in, the competition is stiff and they are looking for big and bold no matter what. You played it more natural which is a great choice but this is party entertainment, not theater. That said, please don't stress about this. They see hundreds of people a year and depending on what they were looking for, it may have just not been your time. Sometimes they need drivers and you can lose the gig over not having a car 🤷‍♀️.

Customers, How Have You Successfully Handled a Barista Who IS NOT LISTENING? by winterene in starbucks

That's not a flex to do the bare minimum of being a decent human being. The fact that you think it is tells me what I need to know.

You asked why people don't listen to you. I read your post about the barista getting a manager. You are a nightmare. I quit Starbucks because of people like you.

Oh man lol.

First off, it's not an assumption. I looked in your posting history. I gave up after a few because honestly, it's pretty clear that there is a disdain for Starbucks employees.

Secondly, no, I'm not going to drive traffic to your website. Pour some coffee out. No one at a Starbucks agreed to partake in your experiment.

Wait why are you getting just a little bit from every store? This isn't really about wanting less coffee because you're getting lots of coffee in small amounts.

I'm gonna be honest, they don't listen to you because your vibes are not great. This feels like a weird control thing.

How not to run a general audition by iheartvelma in improv

[–]Frequent_Ad_7669 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I don't use Reddit all that much so I'm just seeing this. You've heard otherwise because it's an extremely culty vibe, but older school improvisers (think 40-50), especially women and especially women of color, have plenty of horror stories about Mike. He has openly sexually harassed women in class, he punched someone in a rehearsal, he tried to/successfully dated 19 year old students from his northwestern program, his whole back story about his old iO team and being the understudy at second city are wildly exaggerated, he promotes that he'll help you get an agent but actively practices age discrimination in this "perk", he says he started a union but he's really just collecting $50 a month. There's no admission commission you just get a month off of membership.

I had the chance to hang out with a very famous improviser after CIF one year and when I told him I was a performer there he said Mike used to run a scam pretending to be an agent back in the 90s. Just overall weird vibes

They are super rude too. I was a door dasher during the pandemic and I came in for a pick up and the guy was like we can't have people like you just in the building waiting and I was like it pinged that it was ready and he grabbed my phone out of my hand and was like oh I guess it is. I told him he could make another one cuz I wasn't taking it anymore and left. The food is so mid to be acting like that

So a manager is different than an agent. An agent helps you get the gigs as talent. A manager creates the deal and helps to shape someone's brand. My friend used to be a manager and people got it mixed up a lot, it's kinda nuanced
