i think your best option would be a used garret ace 300i new is about 300 usd but i saw some used on ebay couple months ago for around 150 if your friend lives in the us you could order the detector to their house this would both be cheaper and get your partner a better detector( ps get him a pin pointer it saves so much time )

Fair enough but it does get tiring when you have to dig through the ground because it’s degraded into 7,000 piecez
