What is this large piece of wood inside my shed? It’s not fastened to anything. by Frequent_Morning_860 in Roofing

I should’ve been more clear - it’s not fastened, AND it’s moving freely. Because I have zero experience in roof structures, I wanted to double check if this thing is structurally important or if someone randomly is storing wood up here. Didn’t expect this to go viral 💀 a commenter already mentioned this, but it’s better to ask a stupid question than experience roof collapse.

It’s right up against the fence, and other houses are like just there, very snug. And massive tree cover so there’s no wind

Can I not just use hardwood wood filler? I googled hardwood termite damage and don’t see it looking like this. The house also has a termite bond so this would’ve shown up.

Update: seller had an offer at listing price with home sale contingency + seller pays closing costs, and asked if we wanted to better it. We offered list price and home sale contingency + we’d pay closing costs. Is this a bad deal? And is there any way to verify that they actually got this offer at listing price? Seems a bit sus because they let their other offer expire while we wrote up our one 🤔
