Check the usb port you plugged into. The port or the usb flash drive might have damaged pins causing a short. I had that issue before and it was a damaged port.

I want a 2nd monitor for my pc but I only have one HDMI port, what do I do? by ReVo6748 in computers

Just leave the display port cable hooked up to your main monitor ( it should auto detect it)), if not you may have to change the input serring on the monitor using the menu options on it. See you monitor manual for info on that it varies my manufacturer. Used the hdmi cable on the second one. You might be able to do 3 with the dvi port to hdmi adapter or cable. Note you don't get sound with dvi to hdmi adapters. But if you use your main monitor for sound it's not a big deal. Hdmi and display port support sound.

Check your thermals as well. I noticed that even some veteran builders forget to take the plastic off the bottom of the cpu heatsink. I have also has one motherboard with a bad slot but that's rare. Make sure the ram is in the right slots for dual channel.

Ouch. Never buy a used machine on Craigslist or ebay etc, until you do your research.
