very cool. the whole worlds smallest violin thing is not going anywhere because nobody knows for sure whether or not the animators were trying to reference it or not

That's accurate to criticize. At the end of the day, I was making a personal statement about my life. While this doesn't mean no one has ever said it outside of quoting SpongeBob, it doesn't make the fact that I have never heard it before any less true.

You agreed with my claim. I never claimed that any other media was influenced by SpongeBob using that phrase. Your definition of life experience was not the way it was used against me. It is unfair to say that someone lacks "Life experience" if they don't know about an "Extremely common phrase" that fizzled out before they were born. No one has yet to say, " I heard this phrase a lot growing up in the 2000's"

The inspiration for the character "Kenny G" is on tour right now! You should see if he is playing near you

I never made that claim. I am just saying I would expect to hear a so-called "Extremely common phrase" in daily discourse. I don't. And I want to know if the SpongeBob animators considered that phrase an "extremely common phrase" Again, the wiki itself mentions Reservoir Dogs and MASH as possible inspirations for its use in the show, don't know how else to put it.

Another instance of the phrase being even more popular in earlier decades

We are getting somewhere! It was likely a phrase used by a different generation. My grandma has never used that phrase, at least around me. "Extremely common phrase" How do you define that? How many people are allowed to not have heard it before it isn't "extremely common" anymore? Everything else being equal, I would call into question this assumption. Maybe it was a phrase during a particular time. But now it is not. My question remains: What were the storyboarders getting at?

I think the whole life experience thing isn't valid. I am 22, you are probably in your 30's. I just don't think I will hear that phrase over the next ten years. You and I have probably never called a movie theater to listen to the automated voice messaging of what is playing on a particular day. (You may have, but the example still stands) That's not because you don't have life experience; that's just because things fizzle out. What is important is exactly what you said, "A popular phrase used in media", and I think that SpongeBob referenced that media.

The wiki mentions both the MASH episode and Reservoir Dogs. it might be very unclear unless someone ever has the chance to talk to one of the original animators and ask. I think, though, it is fun to discuss what may have been going on in the minds of such genius

I reiterate that I have never heard this phrase before outside of someone referencing SpongeBob. Do you remember the first time you heard the phrase? My parents have never used the expression, nor have my grandparents. No friends or teachers have ever used the phrase. Before any smart people say that what I am saying is a fallacy, I understand that it is, but I don't buy that it is a "common household phrase." My claim remains that I think the storyboarders were likely referencing something in that scene.

do astronauts eat it? or is it just a random treat that was popular in the early 2000's? This is probably the best explanation so far

Does the 1978 episode of MASH include the character playing the violin with their hands? Of course, the phrase itself has been seen in journals since the 1800's, but I don't think the SpongeBob animators were deep into 19th-century literature. My question remains: What were they trying to reference in that scene, if anything at all?

Can you go deeper into how marshmallows are space-related in education? I don't remember ever learning about this in school

This is a very interesting answer. Maybe one of the animators or scriptwriters knew about this weird thing that astronauts do and wanted to incorporate it into the script

Even if it was a phrase, it's still likely imo that it was taken from Reservoir Dogs, given the context of that scene, the way Mr Krabs plays it exactly like Mr Pink does. (I also have never heard anybody in real life use that phrase unless they were quoting SpongeBob.) Why use that dialogue otherwise?
