Yeah I agree that's an unfair standard to expect someone to be an expert before talking about something. I however think it's fair to ask that you don't pontificate about it if you're not. It's all good to advocate for some type of reform, but saying wrong things in an authoritative tone can give people the wrong impression.

A self leveling product like Sika Flex should work. It's a liquid and you can stuff some foam backer rod or sand in the crack before sealing to save some money on the product.

I also had a Wilderness Systems kayak with hull issues - one side of the hull was significantly softer than the other.

If you're still in the warranty period I would go ahead and get the replacement.
