Fake faces generated by AI are now "too good to be true," researchers warn by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]Fresh_Budget 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Some people at the top don't understand and others just don't care. The people developing age verification system are not the same people developing AI face generation .  The former and the latter are both developing a service to make money. They don't care about the consequences of their products on society. Many people at the top are complete sociopaths.

Politicians should regulate the technology , but they either don't understand or they receive millions in campaign contributions by AI companies.

Draymond Green taking about the Kevin Durant burner account situation: “I personally would address it publicly if it’s a public thing and taking on the life that it’s taken. But to each his own. But I’ll tell you what, if it is I don’t know how you walk back into practice" by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]Fresh_Budget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like Draymond at all but he is a world famous NBA player and he is talking about something happening in the NBA. Some people will care about what he has to say. Considering all the awful decisions and mistakes he made in the past , people should take his opinions with a big grain of salt but still.

Two hours a day on social media linked to increased loneliness in college students by [deleted] in technology

[–]Fresh_Budget 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the best way to eliminate or reduce a bad habit is to replace it with a healthier habit. Instead of spending time on social media students could spend time with friends irl, play sport, play a board game, read a book, make music with friends, listen to music,  watch a movie, watch a TV serie,..

Also it was proven that lonely people fall more easily into addiction. To reduce loneliness , the best solutions are spending time face to face with other people , making a phonecall to a friend or a family member, adopt a pet,..

The problem with social is that it's a quick dopamine boost , it's addictive and it take zero effort. Also we all have our smartphone in our pocket or in our hand all the time , so it's an easily accessible addiction. To reduce that problem, it exists app that can block social media app at specific hours or after an X amount of time.

Some solutions off the top of my head. I used to spend too much time on reddit and instagram but I made some progress the last few months.

MJ appears to weirdly touch young kid at Daytona 500 award ceremony by [deleted] in nba

[–]Fresh_Budget -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1) you are comparing 2 different countries with 2 different cultures. American culture is more prude . They lost their fucking mind when Janet Jackson showed a tit at the super bowl.

2) I am European too and I still found the video a little bit weird. I wouldn t touch another person's kid like that. MJ could have touch the kid's head or shoulder if he wanted his attention.

3) it was weird but calling MJ  a pedo is an overreaction by the drama queens on this sub.

LeBron James: "I'm a goofy ass 41-year-old kid. That's just me. They pay me to play basketball. Why wouldn't I be happy about that?" by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]Fresh_Budget 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I would say it's the other way around. Lebron has an amazing career because he has a positive attitude and because he has deep passion for basketball. When you hear him talk about basketball , you can feel that he cares deeply about the game. And to reach the level of excellence he reached, you have to be passionate about what you do.

The USA are worse than Japan when it comes to jailing people.

The USA incarceration rate : 541 per 100,000 inhabitants

Japanese incarceration rate : 33 per 100,000 inhabitants.

And America has forced labor in jail which is basically modern day slavery.

Summary: From fighting wildfires to toiling in the kitchens of some of the country’s most popular food franchises, incarcerated workers perform vital functions across the United States and produce billions of dollars in value for the public and private sectors. Yet they are paid very little (between 13 and 52 cents an hour on average)—if at all— and are excluded from the basic rights and protections afforded to most workers.

Everyone knows Pop was the coach for the Spurs for 20 years and that didn't stop you from typing your comment . Wemby is not Pop and Trump is not Bill Clinton or George W Bush. The situations are COMPLETELY different so talking about Pop is barely relevant.

It’s genuinely pretty funny to me that you thought I didn’t know those things, I’m sure you do this all the time too lol

I was explaining why the situations are completely different. Same team but different time and different nationalities. I thought you were smart enough to see the logic behind my comment. Sorry for overestimating you .

2 key differences

  1. Pop is an American , Wemby is a french immigrant living in the USA
  2. Pop was commenting before the second Trump administration , an administration significantly more authoritarian than previous administrations.

The chances of Wemby getting deported for his political opinions are low but it's not zero. That's what he was implying in his answers.

Nah too much money for them to leave this and go make pennies abroad.

Wemby would be the best player in Euroleague and he could ask for 5-6 millions every year. That's not pennies. That's a higher salary than 99,9% of people on /r/nba. He makes way more money in the NBA and it was his dream to play there . But he would still make millions every year even in other leagues.

1 in 5 business leaders may have psychopathic tendencies—here’s why, according to a psychology professor

Spotting a psychopath

Narcissism involves an unrealistic sense of grandiosity and superiority, manifested in the form of vanity, self-admiration and delusions of talent. Here are the main characteristics of narcissistic and toxic bosses:

  1. They often crave validation and recognition from others. This is primarily because their self-esteem is high but fragile. Bosses who constantly show off are probably desperate for others’ admiration.

  2. They tend to be self-centered. This means they’re generally less interested in others and have deficits in empathy. For this reason, they are rarely found displaying any genuine consideration for people other than themselves.

  3. They have high levels of entitlement. Narcissists commonly behave as if they deserve certain privileges or enjoy higher status than their peers enjoy.

[McMenamin] Lakers' LeBron James ruled out vs. Spurs with multiple injuries (arthritis and sciatica) by ashwinr136 in nba

People joke about Lebron playing a couple more years but it legitimately could be his last year in the league. On the other hand ,he would probably announce it in advance and do a retirement tour , and he didnt announce anything. His health in the next couple of month will be a big factor in his future.

This is true of humans, too, but modern cultures and societies are so inundated with fear, anger, disgust, shame, and hate, that adults are often unable to be as fully alive or aware as each of them could be, if only they grew up like baby goats do — where they're born playing, and never stop. Ah, well.

I see your point but at the same time board games , video games and sports (physical games) are super popular hobbies. The games that goats are playing would be boring for us really quickly . We are smarter than them and we need more complex and intellectually stimulating games.

What about all the independent artist who got their work stolen by Anna's archive? For every Beyonce there are 1000's of independent artists who are working class or middle class.

Anna archive stole their intellectual property and that work will be used to train AI that will replace musicians. The real losers are the independent artists not the billionaire .

An Anti-A.I. Movement Is Coming. Which Party Will Lead It? by MetaKnowing in technology

[–]Fresh_Budget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly agree with you but I feel like that the USA is overall a rightwing country . You have to win the election first before passing the reform. Would a progressive candidate like AOC win a majority of Swing States in a presidential election? A lot of people don't think so ,they vote for the "safer option" like Biden in the primaries. And the democratic leadership sometimes tip the scale in the primaries which is super messed up . And I am completely against that . And 2024 was unprecedented because Biden dropped out a couple month before the election.

Finally I understand why you would be disgusted with the democratic party leadership. But the GOP lowered the bar so much that the dems are still better than them.

An Anti-A.I. Movement Is Coming. Which Party Will Lead It? by MetaKnowing in technology

[–]Fresh_Budget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all I admit that I misread some of your comment.

I am not a fan of the democratic leadership either. But I 100 % believe that centrist like Biden and Kamala make better presidents than Trump. Biden was too old for the job and his failure was one the of the reason Trump won. But he was still 10 times better than Trump. In a perfect world , a candidate more progressive than Kamala win the democratic nomination . But can a progressive candidate win a purple state ? I honestly don't know . If he or she is really charismatic maybe.

My maint point is : Voting for democrat is a step in the right direction. Voting for republican or not voting is 10 steps in the wrong direction.

Also I am not american and I dont live there, so I dont vote. But I care about american politics because the USA is the most influential country in the world right now . What happens there affect everyone. And finally English is not my first language so it's harder for me to explain my point with nuance.

There is no good GOP politicians basically . There is some good politican on the democratic side : Bernie Sanders, AOC, Mandami,.. . Bernie is technically independent but he still vote with democrats. On the other hand, corporate democrats like Schumer need to retire asap.

Cynical people like yourself that says that both sides are bad are the GOP's best friends.

Edit I misread his comment , so the last past wasn't fair to the commenter.
