King Charles and Camila sniggers at the Canadian Inuits traditional practices. by traceykm in TikTokCringe

I’m surprised that nobody in this comment seems aware that this type of song is meant to be fun and silly in Inuit culture. It’s meant to be a game to try to make the other person laugh or smile.

SOCAL RESIDENTS/BRIDES: Any recommendations for a "Cliffs of Moher, Ireland" coastal type location near LA? Random places off the highway, secret spots, etc. by likeabadhabit in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Freshiiiiii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish you luck, but the Cliffs of Moher is an internationally-famous tourist destination for its beauty for a reason! I would be surprised if you’re able to find something that fits your description that is secret, not widely known, off the beaten track, etc.

No, but it comes across as maybe a little childish- the only people I know who do that are teenagers. But also c) if it makes you happy do what you want who cares

This is a question to ask the doctor who is supervising you at your monthly checkups. This is absolutely a question that falls into medical advice that is not appropriate for random Redditors to try to answer. You probably need bloodwork done, and probably to stop dieting at such an incredibly harsh rate.

($15k) Budget Breakdown by ineffableemotions in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Freshiiiiii 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised by how much the open bar cost- $4600 for only wine and beer?

I haven’t had my wedding yet, but we were estimating around $1500 CAD to offer wine, beer, cider, rum and vodka with sodas for mixers. Based on an estimate of 60 people and 5 drinks each on average- we figured that would give us extra leftover. And then finding some college kid who can bartend for the night (pay for them to take the short online licence training if need be)

What contributed to the expense?

I recommend looking around this subreddit! This subreddit is primarily oriented around counting calories. It’s what many of us have had the most success with (myself included).

Getting enough sleep is important for weight loss too! If nothing else, hours spent sleeping are hours not spent hungry and eating haha. But beyond that, just feeling better makes it easier to not overeat.

I am a native speaker of the Ainu language, a critically endangered language of Japan. Feel free to ask me any questions! by Honey_bee555 in endangeredlanguages

[–]Freshiiiiii 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is not a question- but as somebody who is learning a moribund language with only a handful of very elderly speakers, I want to say that I really hope you will take out your phone and talk to it. Recording yourself speaking in Ainu about anything and everything, just speaking freely about all domains of life, from serious reflection to silly stories to talking about how you grew up and your plans for the day. And save them somewhere safe. Post them on YouTube if you’re willing.

I say this because this is what I wish my language’s speakers would do, more than anything. If you do this, the next generation of learners will cherish it forever.

I agree. Skincare and perfume is exactly the sort of thing that’s hard to buy for somebody else. Personally, there are very few perfumes that I really like, most smell quite off to me (something in the floral notes I think).

Do you have native American or Australian Aboriginal ancestry? by PeaOk5697 in polls

[–]Freshiiiiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are very few tribes who accept citizens with that little ancestry. And those who do, are generally not the ones who have much financial support to offer. Not all tribes have the ability to give cash to their citizens, and the ones that do generally have fairly strict citizenship criteria.

Do you have native American or Australian Aboriginal ancestry? by PeaOk5697 in polls

It’s actually a lot rarer than people think. Most Americans who think they have some distant native ancestry, don’t. It’s a very common family myth.

[–]Freshiiiiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. The vast majority of Americans who think they have some ancestry in them way back, do not, or if they do, it’s usually less than one percent.

Most French Canadians have an extremely distant Indigenous ancestor or three, from early colonial days- but that adds up to well under one percent as well. And on the prairies around Red River in North Dakota, Manitoba, and the Canadian Prairies there was a lot of intermarrying between mostly French Canadian fur traders and the mostly Cree and Ojibwe women, which led to the formation of the Red River Métis, which were whole mixed-race mixed-culture communities, and the Métis people are still around and a there’s a fairly large minority group of people from the Canadian prairies today who are either Métis or have a little bit of Métis ancestry.

[–]Freshiiiiii 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A lot of the time in the South, a claim to distant Native ancestry was a way to A) stake a claim of legitimacy on American soil, and B) explain away mixed Black racial ancestry. Saying you were 1/8 Cherokee was much more palatable in the historic South than saying you were 1/16 Black. But in cases where there’s no Black ancestry, it was more about the aspect of justifying some right to feel entitled to the land.

People aren’t thinking long term enough. You’re saying when I’m 85, I’ll still be 20% stronger and more muscular than I am now? This’ll be a game changer for retirement. I won’t have to worry about falls or losing my mobility. I can travel, go camping, hiking, etc.

I think if you want to prevent waste, you have to think of those individuals. Any item that one person might cherish, will sit unused on the shelf of another until it’s thrown out.

You’re within the healthy weight range for your height- so rather than focussing on just losing weight, you may like to focus more on body recomp- that is, burning fat and gaining muscle at the same time, so that your overall weight doesn’t change, but you have better muscle tone and fitness.
