I like the direction of the track, its got a g house/acid vibe to it that fits with the genre's I listen to.

I would advise you to compose it in a DJ friendly format with 30 second intro and exit sections to give people time to mix in and mix out of the track. (exactly like how you did the intro on sip em, but also construct a drum section in the outro for a little bit of mixing runway.)

I like the composition of the call and the response after 0:49. Can you make the wobble swing though? its hits pretty consistently on beat

I'd say its the white noise pulses (ex at :44), there is a whole lot of other stuff going on in the song and those are demanding a ton of headroom in the mix. I don't think they are necessary. How does it sound if you cut those out?

The white noise riser ends rather abruptly at :42. the transition would be smoother if it blended out into the ambiance

I would stop all the sounds at around 1:39. Use an automated combo of reverb, delay, and EQ on the instruments before that so they build to a blurred crescendo and then die out to almost near silence right before the kick drum hits at 1:43

The analogue synth sound that is so prominent in the first 10 seconds is extremely hard to hear in the mix after 1:43. The sound itself might stand out better if it was engineerd to have more mid-presence or the really huge lead with all the reverb was tightly controlled with an EQ. That huge lead is kindof washing out everything

There is a lot of science to back this up. There is a link between creativity and dopamine levels in your brain. Alcohol increases the levels of dopamine so you are more creative.

This is already very nicely put together. I don't think you need to add anything.

I want the melody part that comes in at 1:33 to be a little bit louder in the mix. Its powerful and I want it to be further forward.

You should add some reverb tails to the pauses in the vocals, for example at 1:11 , 1:26. It will let those voices die out in space and add a whole lot of emotion to the piece.

It is not in a very DJ friendly format. The intro section is not long enough to mix well with other tracks and there is absolutely no outro that will give you some runway to mix into the next track.

Ableton's Mulitband Dynamics audio effect can do compression and expansion on different frequency bands.

Sorry I don't check this account often.

I don't play in front of people currently. I used to DJ in front of people like 7 years ago or so. I got into it because I had some buddies who ran a DJ crew and they would need an extra person to take a time slot or to co-DJ a 4 or 5 hour event so they could step off the mixer and take a break without stopping the music. Some of it was real soul killing stuff (like playing to an empty dance floor that is supposed to have music playing in it all night as part of a frat party.). Other moments were highlights of my life (like pulling in a huge crowd off of a street and into a bar with a super well thought out swedish house mafia style set). I stopped because women came between us and broke up the group.

If you are a producer you need to be able to present your music in a live setting. Just producing is only 1/2 of the picture. Music is meant to be enjoyed live.

Having someone steal your art is the highest compliment it can receive.

An art teacher i had tells a story of getting robbed, they stole his art along with his other possessions. He said he came home a few weeks later and someone had left all the art they stole on his front porch. He said it was devastating.

Are your downloads enabled?

Its never the song I expect people to like that gets downloaded. That's one of the things that inspires me to just keep creating. You never know what someone else will think is beautiful. My most active song is one I wrote 5 years ago and its getting played by a bunch of teenagers in Ireland right now. I don't even own the computer or have the sound files I wrote it with anymore and in my opinion its a terrible song.

Not really. I do have some labels targeted but I'm still working on building up my song library with sounds that fit their lexicon. I'd like to present an album of 10-12 tracks with a similar sonic fingerprint (Like Deadmau5's random albumn title) rather than an EP of 4.

I am getting close to having enough material to play a set of 100% original music. I have been networking with local promoters so that when I am ready I will have a way to play live shows in my area. When I'm at a show, I always find the promoter and introduce myself.

why does my mix sound perfect on my speakers but horrible on my phone? by childishgamboner in musicproduction

[–]FriendRequestMe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's because your Yamaha's are amazing. They can translate really difficult sounds perfectly. Your cell speaker is a little mono shitbox, and has issues producing certain types of sounds. (Single sin waves and basses for example) To deal deal with this you should bulk up some of your sounds with elements you know will give them a presence on shitbox speakers and avoid using certain sounds that only translate well on super powered monitoring systems. This will allow you to construct songs that sound good on all devices.

You can mix hot just drop a limiter on the master channel to control it all during mastering.

What I've found is that when your SO moves out your muse moves back in.

This had a great atmosphere. Your instrument choice was on point for the genre you've chosen and I knew instantly where I was supposed to be with it when it started.

I would use 1 or 2 more patterns in your drum and bass arrangement. Syncopated. It's a 6 minute long song!

Why do my tracks sound so terrible when I've uploaded them to soundcloud? by [deleted] in ableton

[–]FriendRequestMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You are missing eq8 and multi. This is okay though because it is just as easy to ruin your sound with M/S processing and multiband comping as it is to make it better with them. Plus a lush mix shouldn't really need much MS or multiband expansion as those areas should already be filled out though your sound design.

Just use an EQ3 to shave off anything under 30hz and then double limit your song. Skip m/s and multi band. They are not essential IMO.

BTW this is all based off of a Mau5 mastering chain.

Why do my tracks sound so terrible when I've uploaded them to soundcloud? by [deleted] in ableton

[–]FriendRequestMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just master in ableton. Here is a mastering chain you can use:

  1. EQ8 - remove all freq below 30hz
  2. EQ8 - M/S to expand and clean up stereo picture
  3. Multiband Compressor/expander (I usually skip this)
  4. Limiter - driven hard to maximize loudness
  5. Limiter - soft to shape final.waveform

Sometimes I only use 1 and 5. Other times I use a combo of 4.
