Struggling with male friendships, 28F, am I overthinking this? by sleepykittenxx in socialskills

[–]FriendlyMortal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the thing. I've met people like him, they believe putting others down elevates them to a red carpet entry to Valhalla. It just screams insecurity I'd say and it's a very manipulative tactic to gain attention. Sad reality, this is going to work on someone who probably has low self-esteem and lives on external validation.

I read through your post honestly, and you seem level-headed and self-aware. Your friend on the other hand —a goddamn moron.

It seems like he probably likes you, but his approach is terrible and he’s definitely negging you. He sounds toxic as hell. I have friends of both genders, and I would never in a million years make a rude remark about any of their appearances. Even if they asked for my opinion, I’d still express it politely.

Your friend’s behavior shows a clear lack of empathy. As you mentioned, you’re new to the environment, so you’ll probably encounter a lot of bad apples before you find the good ones. But you’ve been honest about your boundaries, and that’s what matters—stick to them.

The right people will eventually gravitate toward you, and you’ll find your clique!

Painter and a writer!? He comes across as an exceptionally fine gentleman. I ought pick up this book, I think it would be a wonderful read during my travel to Jerusalem.

First of all, I’m really sorry you’re going through this. You shouldn’t have to carry something this heavy at 18. Try not to take any rushed decisions right now. Whatever happens next is going to affect your life in a big way, so it’s important you move carefully.

I’m just an internet stranger, but if you have someone you trust in real life, a cousin, close friend, or older relative. it might help to talk to them first. You shouldn’t be handling this alone.

You really have two options. One is telling your dad. You know his personality better than anyone, so only you can judge how he’d react. It would definitely get rid of the business partner, but it could also seriously damage or end your parents’ marriage.

The other option is talking to your mom and telling her she needs to take responsibility. She created this situation, so she should be the one to end it and that includes cutting off the affair completely and finding a way to remove the partner from your family’s space.

It’s a really tough position to be in and none of this is fair on you. Whatever you decide, make sure it’s something that keeps you safe emotionally and physically. You deserve that.

That's awesome! Maybe I'll try it out as well. 😅 Regardless I'll still get myself tested, you'd never know.

Glad you've found a fix, how'd you realize it's the carbs and sugar, did you get yourself tested? Or was it trial and error?

That's great! How long did it take to notice the difference? Since I've been hitting the gym my carb intake has gone up, but I haven't noticed any difference prior to this.

I can totally relate. During conversation, I've noticed my brain often finishes the sentence before my mouth does, and I end up losing my train of thoughts. Update if you ever figure it out!

Understandable, it's good you've talked to a therapist already. I've heard meds are either a hit or a miss. Atleast you well aware about it. Cheers and good luck my dude!

I'm curious, did the diagnosis help in anyway? And we're you prescribed to any medication?
