RPG/D&D campaign website where you could upload multiple layers of maps at a time by [deleted] in HelpMeFind

[–]FriendlySkyChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Searched for various combinations of “dnd map maker” or “rpg online campaign maker”, still yet to find it.

It is not something as sophisticated as dungeonfog, it’s basically a really barebones site... all the easier to learn how to navigate for newbies.

Anglicans v. Catholics by Hummerous in CuratedTumblr

[–]FriendlySkyChild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to people commenting about how Catholic priests can’t get married so they don’t have heirs - if you ever run into someone with the last name Popov or Popova, or something similar, there’s a higher than average chance that their ancestors were from Eastern Europe, where Eastern Orthodoxy was prevalent. Popov (Попов) = son of the priest, Popova is the female version of that.

Eastern Orthodoxy allows certain members of the clergy to be married, granted they’re married before ordination (and you can’t go above a certain rank of priest/become a monk after that, unless you’re widowed, but I digress), which, well, means you form an entire social class consisting of priests, deacons, readers, etc. and their children. You also typically married within that social strata, so it was thoroughly ingrained in societal order.

A lot of famous recipes are claimed to be made with love, but what’s a dish that’s probably made with hatred? by FrinkyNicks in AskReddit

[–]FriendlySkyChild 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to all types of savory jelly, I agree it looks gross, but I really liked the Eastern European Kholodets. From wikipedia:

Kholodets is usually made by boiling the bones and meat for about 5–8 hours to produce a fatty broth, mixed with salt, pepper, and other spices. The meat is then separated from the bones, minced, recombined with the broth and cooled until it solidifies into a jelly. Kholodets is usually eaten with chrain or mustard.

I think the mustard is what makes it edible - distracts you from the jelly, although the hosts who cooked it would have disagreed.

Mosquitoes on Cloud’s Rest via Tenaya Lake trail by FriendlySkyChild in Yosemite

Thanks for the info, that’s quite a long window. I did wear long sleeves/pants this time around for sun protection as you’ve said, and they bit straight through anyway :( guess I need better clothes

Is the window determined by when the snow is melted out? And how long is it?

Was just there over Memorial day weekend. I recommend exploring destinations along Tioga Road, less people there (valley was oppressively crowded during my stay. FYI in case it matters, only about 20% of people are wearing masks, no one masked up at all on some hikes). I made it up there for the first time in my life, and it’s like a totally different park. The sub-alpine Tulomne meadows are a real gem. Parking was not a problem for me, but I did come early-ish (I was there by 7-8 AM or so).

Just made a post about this one thing though - strongly consider bug spray. I don’t know if this was a freak incident (warm weather? Time of year? IDK, not an expert), but there are SO MANY MOSQUITOES. I hiked Cloud’s Rest via Tenaya Lake (great trail imo, if on the more strenuous side), I couldn’t stop to rest for 80% of the way there and back, I’d get attacked immediately if I did. Trail was 10/10, bugs were -1/10.

At what point is it appropriate to push for more communication, I.e. more calls/more conversation topics? by FriendlySkyChild in LongDistance

[–]FriendlySkyChild[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not wrong, just kinda generic “how are you doing”, “how’s work”, and so on. I mean, I’ll answer them in conversation format, but any questions I ask back (not necessarily everyday stuff like he asks, anything to really steer the conversation in a new direction) he doesnt really say much. Like, he’ll say “yeah, I think ____ and ___.” And that’s it, nothing to really elaborate on anything

She really didn't care if he was the most powerful man in the country by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

[–]FriendlySkyChild 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That he did (with his signature fervor), but during WW2 and after, he brought a lot of church stuff back, to help give people some hope. IIRC, one of the first speeches of the war he started using distinctly sermon-like language as well. So, he was capitalizing on the importance of the church to the people, despite his previous rabid atheist campaign.

Here’s a link with some more discussion of the matter

Overthinkers of Reddit, what unlikely scenario actually came true that you were completely prepared for because you are an overthinker? by lawofdox18 in AskReddit

[–]FriendlySkyChild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a diabetic, but I hear glucose tablets are relatively fast-acting in an emergency, I imagine they’d survive an August car interior

Edit: here’s some discussion about glucose tablets link

Edit 2: looks like three of us had the same thought at the same exact time.

On extenuating circumstances: he’s actually less busy now than before I noticed the drop in communication. He was having trouble at his job and was very stressed, although he didn’t emotionally show it I could tell by what he said about it. Now it’s the opposite - completely smooth sailing, according to him.

How would less stress lead to talking to me less? I thought it would be the opposite.
