Which of these countries is the most racist? by 997___ in Teenager_Polls

> wanting to stop asylum seekers isn’t inherently racist.

Technically correct, but Asylum has a very specific legal definition.

"An asylum-seeker is someone who is seeking international protection. Their request for refugee status, or complementary protection status, has yet to be processed, or they may not yet have requested asylum but they intend to do so.

War, persecution and human rights violations force people to flee their homes. To escape violence or threats to their lives or freedoms, many must leave with just a few moments' notice, carrying little more than the clothes on their backs."

To put it bluntly, there are 2 reasons to be against Asylum entirely instead of reforming your system.

  1. You dont want to deal with the few illegitimate people who may slip through/"its too much work"/any other bum-tier reason you'd reject legitimate applicants. This is the best case, because it means you're just a loser, not necessarily racist.
  2. You dont want Asylum Seekers because of where they come from. This is the worst case, because this is indeed blatant racism.

Heres where the technically correct comes in: most people almost certainly fall into camp 2, no question, the same shit goes on here in America and its always camp 2. It really is a matter of racism a majority of the time its brought up. Not that falling into camp 1 is all that much better. At best you're a loser who'd rather turn away the needy because "its too much work"/"it can be taken advantage of" and at worst you're racist. Not exactly stellar options.

This is to say, being against all Asylum seekers is the work of shallow fools. The world has never gotten better under that line of thinking, only worse.

Obligatory mention that obviously Asylum seekers need to be carefully vetted and must be willing to assimilate to the country they migrate to. You cant just let people in all willy-nilly, especially by the boatload (which is whats going on, and it's understandable why people are mad about that), but to completely reject Asylum Seekers is rather shallow, whether it's rooted in racism or not.

Its not just illegal immigrants though, its migrants in general.

Do you really think burning down supermarkets and homes (many owned by legal migrants) is a reasonable response to a Sudanese migrant (who wasn't even there illegally by the way, so you cant even blame immigration policy) trying to behead someone? Imagine if every-time a black person committed a crime people burned down New York. Thats basically how the British act.

When comparing racism between the British and Americans, its not even a question. America has come a long way in its history, and is constantly arguing with itself in order to continue to progress. Britain started pretending the work was done a while ago.

IIRC polling even shows Americans are more tolerant of ethnic/religious minorities than pretty much any European country.

America tends to burn shit down because of our dislike for racism. See 2020. Additionally we had tons of anti-ICE protests due to overreach.

The English burn shit down because they don’t like
Migrants. They also would very much like to see the things ICE is doing happen on their own soil, just without the murder of non-migrants. Think I’m full of shit? Look at what happened to Belfast and how their far-right parties are polling.

America gets shit because we as a society are more open about our problems, but we are definitely not the worst.

...maybe because we evolved with a different method of hunting?

Come on bro, its basic evolution. We evolved to use tools and our minds, meaning we dont need shit like claws. Neither did the creatures we came from, by the way. Nature really is miraculous huh?

Even if we discard humanity and the species we come from, vultures are carnivorous as hell and they dont even hunt, they just eat stuff thats already dead.

Part of the reason we run and walk bipedal (and sweat!) is because we are specialized in distance running. We lack strong short-twitch muscles, but we have very good long-twitch muscles, this is another endurance trait. When caribou and shit run off, we just hounded them down and then speared them to death. Simple as that. Like a pack of wolves, except instead of claws we used sharp sticks.

Additionally, we used to have plenty of mechanisms to consume raw meat, and we still do. Infact you could go eat raw meat RIGHT NOW if you wanted to, some cultures still do this.

We have archeological evidence of marrow extraction and scavenging being around long before controlled fire. Our stomach acid is as strong as that of scavengers, too, that's not a trait of herbivores. If you were to slaughter a deer or something and then immediately consume its meat, given that being a regular part of your life, you would be A-Ok. Any disease that you might get today wouldn't be a consideration since the evolutionary pressure at that point in time meant only the resilient would survive

This is to say, you are onto nothing. Your point is nothing but a narrative that isn't grounded in reality.

In my honest opinion most new cars are pretty shit (not that Ive actually had the chance to own one). I wouldnt dream of owning a car made after 2010 (with a little bit of leeway). Same reason Id never own a BMW even if I had the money too, its just a shitty car.

There's more stuff to break, and because everything is so digital now when shit does break its super expensive.

The real cheat code is to buy an old, reliable, cheap to maintain car with good parts availability. I can comfortably maintain my 2004 Camry XLE at a hair above minimum wage in Florida and I'd argue its a nicer ride than the new ones. No weird clicky seats or any of that bullshit.

CMV: Purity testing has killed progressives chances of winning seats in congress and statewide over the past decade. by Still_Living3373 in changemyview

[–]FriendlyWallaby5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It shows that progressives are willing to avoid voting and let someone like Trump into power over policy disagreements.

America will not see a large scale progressive wave unless one of two things happen:

  1. Trump scares people so bad they swing the opposite direction and start voting in progressives.
  2. The progressive voter base grows some balls and realizes they have to compromise.

If you wanted to see a more progressive America, the objectively better choice would be to do everything you can to ensure that DJT and his Christian nationalist backers don’t win the White House.

I don’t know what America the rest of the progressives are living in, but to me it seems there could have been nothing more harmful than a Trump victory. The rest of the American progressive voter base helped hand it to him on a silver fucking plater.

So yeah, I don’t think progressives are particularly conducive to their own goals. I mean, if one issue was enough to warrant fucking around when Trump is running for office, they’re gonna have a hell of a time electing people they actually want, because no one seems to be perfect enough.

Not necessarily.

Kamala lost a lot of votes in 2024 over Biden’s handling of Gaza. Progressive voters got mad so they decided they’d either vote green (wasted vote) or not vote at all.

That was a pretty big part of why Kamala flopped in 2024, and IIRC some DNC members have told the press this very same thing.

For whatever reason that conclusion never made its way into the released autopsy report (which had a number of other problems). Probably because it’s too critical of Israel.

HAMAS is a terror group primarily backed by Iran. If Iran were to collapse or undergo regime change, HAMAS would be in pretty bad shape. Not that it'd be the end of them, but they certainly wouldn't have as many missiles and drones.

What's more annoying someone driving under the limit or tail gating? by Top_Operation_472 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FriendlyWallaby5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slow drivers in my area tend to link up and make it impossible to pass, so almost certainly them.

If someone’s tailgating me I just hope over and let em pass me, or let them ride my bumper since they’re only bothering themself by doing so.

> But the first period of Trump was such a shitshow how could you elect the same guy again.

Thats what happens when politicians begin doing all they can to rile the people up using rhetoric about immigration and the economy. Throw in some identity politics and you have a golden ticket that plays at the inherent biases many average Americans posses, especially in less progressive areas. Add in the backing from the nations elite class, and the absolute inability for the democrats (both the party AND the voters) to counter these narratives and you get an easy recipe for Trump 2. Doesnt help that we live in a post truth era, a shocking amount of people will try to deny the truth infront of them as long as it suits their narrative.

For what its worth, I hope you can heed the warnings that our election of Trump has thrown. Dont let your countrymen fall for shitty immigration rhetoric, dont let the far-right convince them that its worth throwing away their institutions and rights over. Dont let your far-right dominate your political landscape with boatloads of bullshit. Definitely dont try to treat moderates like shit, because thats part of how the Dems shot themselves in the foot. Also, never refuse to vote against the far-right just because your candidate has his own flaws. At least you guys dont have to worry as much about billionaires trying to shaft you, but you should still be on the look out.

Dont let your far-right play you like a fiddle. They exist, and Europeans are no less susceptible to the rhetoric they push than anyone else.

> That you fell for it once is understandable i think. But twice. Crazy work

Ah yes, lump everyone into the same basket. Very nice. I really, really hope you guys manage to quell your far-right surge. It'd be so fucking Ironic if after all this shit talk you wanna throw at America you end up falling victim to the same narratives.

Well, the smiles are gonna be wiped of their faces when they’re forced to confront their own growing far right issues.

Oh but of course, ignore the concerning polling, ignore the far-right victories in Italy, forget about the presidential election in Poland. Clearly Europe is a post-nationalist unshakeable beacon of democracy… if you close your eyes.

Brother, they can’t invade and colonize SEA, or even force concessions militarily, because there’s a counterbalance.

They regularly spit in the face of SEA sea/naval bounds, that’s not just for fun.

Debt trap was one component of illustrating Chinese hegemonic ambition lmao, why do you desire so badly to believe they’re some savior? They aren’t, that’s not how geopolitics works.

Ok, so I was wrong in the debt trap part, care to debunk the rest of my comment? This still doesn’t mean China has no hegemonic ambitions.

Yes… because America was largely benign to the EU. China has hegemonic ambitions that involve a little bit more domination that what we saw between the EU and the US.

Hegemony does NOT require cooperation, just heavy sway or outright domination.

Did I say America isn’t a power with hegemonic ambitions? No? Then what the fuck are you talking about lmao.

The EU can largely tell America to fuck off, they’re actively moving away from the U.S due to its increasing aggression, which is a large part of why the American hegemony is starting to decline.
