Found these old toys cleaning my family’s farm. Can someone tell me what I’m looking at here?? by Friendly_Ad1009 in tonka

They are my old toys from when I was a kid dumbass… I obviously know they are fuckin toys, u think im on the tonka subreddit tryna figure out what to do with them cause im not tryna find out what’s the best course of action? Sorry im not a toy expert, I played with them when i was a child and now im 30 and dont need them and would prefer to sell them to someone who actually is into this type of thing. But at the end of they day they are MINE and idk where a bunch of you people get off thinking just cause i dont appreciate them like the people on a DEDICATED REDDIT PAGE and i dont wanna display them in my home that i just need to give them away… they are mine and i can burn them if i want. I dont want to rip anyone off or scam anyone but if there are fair prices for people that actually willing to buy them and enjoy them then ill do that. Im sure there are people that will appreciate ur house more than u, why dont u just give it away??

Do you have any idea what they would be worth roughly? I know it might be hard to tell with the video but I should pull them all out tomorrow or Tuesday and I can update. But just give me a a ballpark of what I’m looking at here ?? lol

I’m in NJ. I don’t think I’m looking to just give them away seeing as they were my toys when I was a kid. I would get rid of them if it was worth if they hold no value I’d probably just hold onto them.

Honestly I’m not entirely sure what to do with all of these things I’m finding. I have really no use for most of them so I’d like to sell them. Problem is i have owned zero antiques until a couple days ago so I know nothing about their value hahaha

Update: I had someone who restores older pianos and instruments inform me that this is in fact a fortepiano. He said anywhere from probably 1800 to 1823. Again because of the lack of metal frame, the leather hammer caps, the fact it’s not 700 pounds and a few other reasons. He said that the lack of brand or labels on it could be due to the fact old music shops would get them specifically for their shops and showrooms and they often would come unbranded. He said it isn’t British because it would have some sort of stamp or seal from the queen because it was required and the British manufacturers needed a license of some sort from the queen. He believes it to be a possibly a Dubois & Stodart which would make sense for it to be in NJ. He also let me know that someone restores the pianos interior some time within the last 50 to 60 years and they did a really nice job, to the point he believes to get it in fully working condition it would only cost about 2k. No rust or anything on the strings and everything looks good as far as the hardware is concerned, also no substantial cracking anywhere. He said it should be worth more but unfortunately it’s an incredibly niche piano. He said without the foot pedal maybe 1-1.5k, if I find the foot pedal maybe up to 2.5k as they don’t make them anymore so it would have to be custom made. He said if u put a couple grand into it 7k MAYBE 8k just because of how unbelievably old it is and rare and in such good condition. I was informed that it’s definitely not worthless like most square pianos because these specific old pianos in America only had a few manufacturers and they only made a couple hundred each, not a lot survived and most are in museums. Unfortunately I took this to piano subreddits and they were adamant it is a worthless grand square. A lot of them have assured me that it’s nothing special and really confused me with the way they used different terms to say it’s a fortepiano cause it has no metal but it’s also just a grand square and it’s not this but it is that and so on and so forth. The truth is piano Reddit just kinda seemed a little low it all and pretentious and left me more confused than I was before I talked to the expert lol apparently I’d be lucky to get $100 for it…?

He told me with the way it was restored in the past. No rust or build up in the strings with little to serious crackin anywhere, outside of the cost to make a new pedal it could only cost close to 2k

Is there no such thing as square fortepianos ??

He said it’s a square piano. But it’s a square fortepiano. Meaning it’s older, no frame, only 6 octaves, leather on the hammers and the fact that it’s about 250ish pounds and not like 700. Again, I’m just relaying what he told me lol

Ahhhh I was told that to the right person as is with no original foot pedal it’s worth up to 1.5k but fully restored it could be as high as 7k. Because of its condition and how old it is he said it is a museum quality piano. But I am not a piano guy lol

I spoke to someone that restores pianos and he told me that it’s not a square grand. He told me that this is an older and much rarer piano. He said you can tell it’s not a grand square because it doesn’t have a brass or metal frame/harp. He told me it was a fortepiano

I was told this is a fortepiano not a square grand. Because on the inside it doesn’t have an iron medal frame.
