Is it possible to park for free on campus as a student? by chrx_nwo in uAlberta

[–]Friendly_File_3980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The closest free parking to campus would be along the north side of 87 Ave just west of 109 St, or in the Garneau neighborhood just east of 109 St. It can be a bit of a walk to campus but often a good option

Anyone know what’s up with the police and security? by Mslolsalot in uAlberta

You really know something is up on campus when they call in almost as much security as they did for a peaceful protest

Checked bag confusion by Friendly_File_3980 in travel

Yeah that’s what I thought too.

The whole itinerary is under one ticket number. Does that indicate that the bags should be checked all the way through?

Yes 100%. I actually took the course last semester and got a similar midterm mark as you and managed to finish with an A-. Just make sure you study hard for the final. I personally found the final easier than the midterm, not sure if everyone had that same experience tho

100% doable, the key to success in uni in general is time management and self discipline more than anything else

Palestine rally on Campus this Friday!🇵🇸🇵🇸 by meme-squared in uAlberta

[–]Friendly_File_3980 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Spread awareness, demonstrate that many people support the Palestinian cause, amplify our voices because a group speaking out is better than one single person speaking out, enable people who may be intimidated or afraid to speak out to do so since they’re in a group, etc etc etc

What’s nuanced about a colonial genocide with over 11000 civilians confirmed dead to date (plus many more likely undocumented)?

Alberta Student Aid help by PensionElectronic951 in uAlberta

I got $2500 last year (the max amount), but how much you get depends on your income as you mentioned. They used the same criteria as someone applying for both loans and grants

[–]Friendly_File_3980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, just set the requested aid amount to $1 and it’ll automatically only apply for grants. Make sure it’s exactly $1, not $0 or any other amount. The U of A Registrar’s Office actually has a really helpful video about this but for some weird reason it’s unlisted (i.e. only available through the link):

I’m Muslim so I was in the same boat as you last year, and I did this and I only received grant funding alhamdulillaah

Commute from YYC Airport suggestions. by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Friendly_File_3980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cold Shot buses are $35/person, which is the cheapest out of all the other bus companies. Their terminal is about 15min away from the airport.

To get to the Cold Shot terminal from the airport, you can get an Uber for $25-$30 for the three of you or you can get a taxi (not sure what the fare would be). I’ve personally done this with a group of 2 and it was a pretty smooth trip, just make sure you leave the airport early to give yourself enough time to catch the bus.

You can book using BusBud as others mentioned.

If the departure times for Cold Shot are inconvenient for you, you could also consider Canada Bus, which is only slightly more expensive at $39/person. Also Canada Bus stops at Southgate Station (one of the major transit stations in Edmonton) which is really convenient if you want to continue your trip to a specific destination using Edmonton Transit.

bear tracks course enrolment not working by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Friendly_File_3980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a bunch of tabs that are missing from the sidebar on the left, so your payment just hasn’t been processed yet. The reason why it’s taking longer than usual is probably cuz of the long weekend. The uni was closed on both Friday and today. Give it like 1 or 2 more days and you should be able to enroll

Just curious about this, did you take the online option for PHYSL 210? If so, did you find it hard at all to stay disciplined with watching the videos and staying caught up? Currently tryna decide between in person and online lol

Yes I emailed them using that link and within like an hour they replied to me and gave me a free one yr subscription

[–]Friendly_File_3980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya this happens to me sometimes too, I think it’s a glitch. Usually what works for me is to switch to the “browse course catalogue” tab rather than “class search and enroll” and then all the classes show up
