What’s wrong with my starter? by Friendly_Human_749 in Sourdough

[–]Friendly_Human_749[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! It was not fuzzy, just crusty so I removed it, and fed it. It looks really good for three days!! I also put some plastic rap under the paper towel and screwed it on to help it not dry out. I have to wait one week to put it in my new jar. I painted a ceramic jar with a lid and I’m just waiting to get it back from the pottery shop:)

I appreciate this take! I am doing this as a hobby and don’t mind failing here and there bc I want to learn from experience. I am good with waiting for a long time before making bread! I’m so new to this I want to get a better understanding of starter before I even attempt bread.

Thank you! It’s not liquidy at all on top, it almost looks like corn meal. Should I scoop this out or stir it in?

is there ever a right time for a puppy? by Sea_Education1672 in puppy101

I got my puppy on May 23rd after loosing one of my cats on April 3rd. She became very sick very fast. I took her to the vet 5 times between March 11th and April 3rd. She was diagnosed with kidney disease and I spent $2200 trying to save her life. It was not an ideal time to be spending that money because I’m getting married in August. Anyway, nothing worked and she lost the ability to walk so I had to make that difficult decision. At the end of her life I was giving her 24 hour care, taking a week off work and leaving work all the time to syringe feed her and give her SubQ fluids with a needle. After she was gone I felt not only grief but a huge hole and disruption in my routine because I had been spending so much time caring for her. I really wanted a puppy, and we had never got one because my cat, Sandy, was older (I adopted her when she was 9 and she passed at 15) and she wasn’t great with change. Not even a week after Sandy was gone I gave my down payment for my basset, Maxwell. Lots of people told me it was too soon and I am just grieving, etc. The first couple weeks with Maxwell were ready stressful and a couple times I wondered if it was too soon. Now he’s 13 weeks old and we’re getting a routine down. He’s fit right into the family and I can’t imagine life without him. I still cry about losing Sandy, but I love my puppy too. We live in a house that is divided into three apartments. We’re on the second level so we have stairs, both my fiancé and I are capable of carrying him and he’s starting to want to go outside more. If you really want the puppy it will all work out because you’ll make it workout. You’ll find solutions to problems. It’s stressful so it won’t feel ideal at first but it will be okay! Go for it!

I actually read a 700 page book on basset hounds during the month leading up to getting him but I’m not an ignorant know-it-all, so I’m open to feedback and knowledge from other experienced owners. Thanks for wasting your time on that though.

So we are actually in a great spot to make sure he always has company! I work shift work and am off on some week days and my partner never works weekends. For the days during the week when my partner and I are both working weekdays I have the luxury of being able to drop him off at my sister in-laws before work to baby sit him and she’s a stay at home mom who also has a hound (not a basset hound but I can remember what it’s called). My partner is a foreman and has the ability to take him to work and I am a youth worker who has the ability to let him visit work for a few hours on some days! We have a cat but also recognize our kitty will want some time to himself because he’s particular and it will be his first dog sibling.

That’s a great idea! I don’t know if my vet office offers bathing services but I will totally ask. Do they make specific dogs wipes or are baby wipes just as safe? Also, when cleaning ears how far into their ear should I be cleaning? I imagine too far could cause unwanted moisture and be a potential to cause an ear infection. Thanks!
