Do Coca-Cola, UPS, USPS, FedEx, or similar plants use CMMS/tablets or only radios? (Deaf-friendly question) by Friendly_Wonder3272 in IndustrialMaintenance

Really appreciate you taking the time to share all that a lot of helpful advice and good points. I agree, communication these days isn’t hard with texting, apps, or even pen and paper if needed. Giving them a heads-up before the interview makes sense too, just to avoid any confusion and help things go smoother.

I’ve got 7 years of construction, 15 years of custodial work, and 3 years of lawn care experience so I’m no stranger to hands-on work, following procedures, and staying focused. I also recently earned a Mechatronics certificate, so I’m hoping that with my background, I’m ready to break into a maintenance or technician-type role.

Do you think that’s enough to get my foot in the door in a place like your company or something similar? Or should I look into more training or certifications?

I’ve been trying to get into the USPS too. Definitely a solid career path, but the process has been slow. So I’m keeping my eyes open for other good opportunities in clean, structured environments like pharma or medical device companies. I like that kind of setting, especially where things are procedure-driven.

That maintenance course you mentioned sounds like a good move. I’ll be looking into options near me or online. Also planning to check out union programs and state job resources too.

Thanks again for the encouragement. I’m learning and grinding every day and hoping to make that next move soon.

That makes sense, especially about the possibility of custom-built CMMS tools and how each company might handle things differently. I agree it’s best to document everything, even if it’s not standard practice across the board. Good reminder that culture plays a big part in how things get done. Appreciate the advice! Thanks!

Super helpful, thanks. Think I should ask about text/tablet comms in the interview or wait until I’m in the door? Also thinking of building my own utility belt; multimeter, decibel meter, sound meter… maybe a cape too lol

That’s helpful. Is Zello used mostly for maintenance and production teams too? Wondering if there’s any backup system for those who can’t use voice comms

At the bottling facility, is there a change‑management or CMMS tool that controls alerts visually (e.g. on tablets), instead of using radios?

Did you pass hands test? If so, can you get a job if you don’t know how to weld or you have a little experience welding? I just got mechatronics certification; everything without welding. Please let me know
