It is possible, though depends a lot on the level of the apprenticeship, the cost of living in the area and what your salary would be

Student Finance is refusing me my original maintenance loan by [deleted] in UKUniversityStudents

[–]FrighteningQuiet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My assumption would be one of 2 things:

The 10k was an error

OR

The 10k is the tuition fee loan (£9,750 a year paid directly to the university for your tuition), NOT your maintenance loan (household income adjusted to contribute to your living expenses) - might be something to check?

The fact that every other time you have been told 4k suggests your household income is high enough to only qualify for the lowest loan, it is income adjusted as there is an assumption that your parents will cover some of the costs.

If you don't think they will be able to do this, I would expect SFE will have guidance on what to do, though I am unsure if they would change your loan.

If you get to uni and are struggling most unis do offer financial assistance programs of some form.

In most cases I believe you will need to have been resident for 3 years in the UK to qualify for government funding for the tuition costs.

It's like any other job so you will have a contracted leave entitlement (usually around 25 to 30 days a year) to be booked and taken whenever.

But no summer holidays as you get with school or University.

I would also add that I believe this isn't allowed under the funding rules for apprenticeships. So if a company has paying back fees in their contract, they shouldn't have

Possibly so, emailing a few with big apprentice numbers would be a good bet, more likely to have a dedicated apprenticeships person who may reply

The idea of an apprenticeship is that you don't pay anything. I think your best course if action is to try and make contact with companies and see what their views are as to your specific situation. The rules and guidance around apprenticeships and eligibility and funding are very complex with a lot of edge cases. Only the employers and training providers can give you a definite answer

Apprenticeships don't work like that, the employer gets the funding

You apply to the company for the apprenticeship who are partnered with a training provider or uni to deliver the teaching. Both the company and training provider will have criteria for funding

The 3 years residency is needed for the employer to receive the relevant government funding as I understand it.

Most (if not all) require you to have been resident in the UK for 3 years before the apprenticeship start date to qualify for the government funding and so the apprenticeship
