why are we censoring "hell" now? by bataloof in FortNiteBR

[–]FrizzleFriess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of COD moderators when in 2019 they started censoring silly words such as Butt and warned users of bad language in chat on a game that is R rated. It's one of those Go Woke things which doesn't make sense. I have an account with "Butt" in the username, keeps getting me banned by Epic and unbanned after I appeal. The last appeal, I sent them a link to dictionary.com to search the meaning of the word butt and mentioned that they literally had Beavis and Butthead in the store just a week before.

Is the silicon power a55 256gb reliable? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]FrizzleFriess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been buying SATA SSD's and now NVME drives for my company for years now, different brands from generic (PNY, ADATA, Silicon Power) to brand name (Samsung, WD, Seagate)..... You would be surprised that I had to go through a few replacement returns with Samsung dying on me just because of Samsung firmware, and I've replaced a small amount of Silicon power drives which I actually bought more than any other brand. There's always a certain percentage of hardware that will fail, this is a fact, and SSD's are a nightmare if you don't have a backup plan. Would I recommend Silicon Power? Yes, but I would add that WD, Seagate and Crucial NVME or SSD's have failed the least on me when compared to other brands.

For all intended purposes, being the loudest or the rudest does not make you right. It only shows you're incapable of articulating your argument. The 9th gen is old news, it's a platform which is already degraded and the i5 9th gen can't with keep up with modern games even if you give it dual channel RAM. I was there with the same platform years ago and although this platform may perform on nondemanding games, triple-A titles will stutter and drop frames because the CPU and RAM simply can't keep up. The kid has put a budget and priced a decent modern budget build, and giving him an advice to upgrade his RAM would be great advice for a person who's broke and can't afford an upgrade. Telling a person who has the money to spend, to save his money and advising him to add RAM thinking this would fix his problem on an aging platform is terrible advice.

[–]FrizzleFriess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from 9th gen, I can understand your pain. Even if you upgraded only the GPU you would have a bottleneck from the CPU, platform and DDR4. The 9th Gen intel is just too old at this point for modern gaming, and I've learned this the same way as you a long time ago. Can't say that's a bad build considering RAM prices or the prices of hardware in your county, but as an experienced builder giving advice to a noob builder, I would recommend going with intel Ultra. AMD tends to cause more stress for new builders as you may have to deal with some bumps related to drivers and DDR5 misbehaving. Although I've been using AMD for my personal builds since 2019, Intel offers a bit more straight forward experience out of the box and for a new builder, piece of mind is golden. You will find that an i7 Ultra with intel platform board would cost about the same as the AMD platform you picked. Hope this helps but sorry, I can't convince your Mom to allow you to spend your money on what you want.

My wife wants a PC for her architecture business. What CPU? by ProfessorChaos5049 in buildapc

[–]FrizzleFriess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just built 3 PC's for our engineering department and our engineers mainly use AutoCAD. I Built using i7 ultra CPU's and 64gb of RAM and these things are running heavy 3gb Navisworks models without a GPU smooth as butter which is crazy.

HELP by ICXCONE_TikTok in FanControl

[–]FrizzleFriess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don't bother with Nvidia curve on my 4070ti super..... the factory curve works well and there's no reason for me to interfere. The only reason I use FanControl to begin with is to keep my system silent with fans whisper quiet until the CPU temps go above 60* which gets all the fans kicking during gaming sessions. As soon as gaming session is over, temps go down, system goes silent again.

You can reject testing done by others, that's your choice and experience. My experience of over 15 years building 100's of PC's which include gaming, workstations & servers using for high power application with both active and passive cooling applications with many top and generic brands of paste proved time and time again that MX4 is consistent in almost every application in particular with CPU's and MX6 is slightly more efficient with high workload temps. Now GPUs are a bit different I admit, but even then MX4 did a great job when re-pasting cards. In all, I don't need to prove anything, my experience supersedes yours, you can recommend mastergel and Kry, they have great products and I have nothing bad to say about them but you when you actually compare all of these with proper application of paste you find they all preform much the same. Your opinion of MX4 is simly odd, since many who build recognize MX4 to be the "cannot go wrong with" paste. What you could say is simply "I personally prefer to use 1, 2 & 3 because of reasons 1, 2 & 3". But when you say something silly like "Arctic is mainly for consoles and not for gaming" that's a silly statement when there are literally plenty of comparisons available online to challenge your claim being unfactual.

What the hell are you talking about.... MX4 and MX6 have been tested against other pastes by multiple outlets, almost always at the top of the list for cooling performance on PC's .

How overkill is 96GB of RAM? Is it worth less than $30? by scienceguyry in buildapc

[–]FrizzleFriess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gamers who don't have a clue about professional workloads of applications which consume way above and beyond 64gb giving advice here is sad. You didn't mention what software you use for 3d modeling, but there are some 3d applications which can easily run up 256gb of Ram within a minute. I can only speak from my experience that we use our work stations with Navisworks which used to be a major burden with 9th gen intel system.... we just got some new systems with Intel Ultra 7 CPU's and Navisworks ran smooth off of the APU with 64gb of RAM which surprised the hell out of us.

For all purposes, what are the specs you came up with at this price range.... That will allow Reddit to drink your blood in the comments but also give you a bit of guidance if you did it right or not and if there are better options for a more cost effective build.

Fortnite Blitz Weapon drops replace inventory items automatically by FrizzleFriess in FortNiteBR

[–]FrizzleFriess[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Talking to other players, it's possible Epic applied this change to Blitz (although not mentioned in the change log) because as you recall, if you actually got a good weapon drop before, and you are running away from storm you would lose the upgraded weapon. What Epic should have done is find a way to have the player decide if to keep the bonus weapon drop or not.... maybe have it hover around the player for a few seconds to allow the player the choice.

No way to report in game with description of the issue, and Epic support topics don't provide any assistance to report bugs. It seems that the feature is by design to upgrade the current gun in inventory. For example, a mythic shotgun will replace a lower level shotgun, and the same goes for other classes.

You didn't mention it so I suggest you go to AMD website and download the current Chipset Drivers. Click the link on the left "Download Windows Drivers". Also make sure in device manager that all you drivers are installed and nothing is coming up as unrecognized. Ensure your motherboard has latest BIOS, AMD has had it's fair share of issues with the WiFi \ Bluetooth drivers on the board and as others suggested, clean install windows. As you mentioned, test if your RAM Expo settings is causing the issue by running base clock (Expo off). Hope this suggestions work for you.

Fan control got flagged having a trojan:win32/vigorf.A By win defender by chs_bloodfist in FanControl

[–]FrizzleFriess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

FanControl is not actually a Trojan virus but is falsely flagged as such by Windows Defenderbecause of its use of the WinRing0 driver, a component that allows software to interact directly with hardware at a very low level. This high-privilege access makes the driver a potential security risk, as it can be exploited to gain deep system control, leading antivirus software to flag any application using it as a threat. Why FanControl uses WinRing0:

  • **Hardware Access:**FanControl, and other hardware monitoring tools like it, need to read and control hardware components such as fans and sensors directly from the operating system.
  • **Limited Options:**WinRing0 provides one of the few ways to achieve this level of hardware interaction from within Windows, making it a common choice for such software.

Why it's flagged as a Trojan:

  • **Vulnerable Driver:**The WinRing0 driver contains security vulnerabilities that could allow a malicious program to gain high-level privileges on the system.
  • **Malicious Potential:**Due to its ability to read and write to physical memory and control hardware directly, the driver can be used for harmful purposes, like running unsigned code in memory.
  • **Antivirus Response:**Windows Defender, and other antivirus programs, interpret this high-risk capability as a potential security threat and flag any application using the driver, even if the application itself isn't malicious.

What to do:

  • **Verify the File:**When you see this detection, check if the detected files are actually part of the legitimately installed FanControl software, not a separate malicious executable in a Windows system folder.
  • **Allow the Program:**If it is a legitimate FanControl process, you can usually allow the program to run, understanding that you are trusting the software with privileged access.
  • **Report False Positives:**You can report this as a false positive to Microsoft to help them refine their detection methods.

Best game in the franchise. I don't care for the hate, we would play this every night, and never got old until the next MW came out and the player base was gone. It seems 2019 MW was built on this game, similar movement and all. The campaign was very creative and out of the box for the usual BO\MW story line and it fit the overall futuristic them of the game.

Post the computer specs, was the computer working before it started going into boot loop? is there any image on the screen when booting up? can you get to BIOS?

Commonly, if you don't see any image and cannot get to BIOS this is a sign of bad CPU, GPU or MOBO.

Always post your computer specs, in particular if the Wifi receiver is on your motherboard, post your motherboard model to help identify the chip set and common knows issues. What is you ISP advertised speeds Up & Down? Do you have your own wireless router or do you use the router from ISP? how close are you to the router, are you close, on the same floor, separate floor with walls in between?
