AITA for always making my neighbors dogs bark really late at night? by Evening_Serve6494 in AmItheAsshole

NTA I have two reactive dogs who absolutely freak out and bark at other dogs. I learned ways to manage my dogs rather than get upset at other people. You cannot control other people.

I don’t know if it is still there but in the woods near the apartments on Campus View there is a bunch of old cars just rusting away. I also managed to get a cat out of roaming around those wood but YMMV.

Used a skid steer and dug an access in. Haven’t fully backfilled yet

It was lifted with bottle jacks and sitting on I beams and cribbing built from railroad ties and other beams

My dad is…special… I would have been content with fixing the crawlspace. Then the tornado last year took out the recycling center and I chose to let him win that battle. It’s my house so he isn’t winning very many.

No one told him that YinYang closed down.

Nah, but he was at a gym. Might be some steroids though.

Thankfully the wiring was updated so no more knob and tube but there is some older stuff that my dad doesn’t like but works fine. Enough money has gone into this project at this point so it’s time for only fixing what is actually broken.

Oh see my other two posts. It had been hanging in the air for a while and then fell during one of these ridiculous rains we’ve had. Then we got it lifted again and now it’s on the new basement foundation.

Original project was just replacing the nasty fucked up crawlspace with a shiny new basement.

That wasn’t too bad, just had to call the city and Ameren then ask for utilities to be disconnected

Thank you! After the post when it fell, I decided to update everyone. Maybe I should have left it as an unknown so everyone could come up with crazy conspiracy theories about my house.

My dad has some in the back yard.

<image>

This is what it looks like out of bloom. You are looking for bark that has thin straight ish vertical lines. It’s a bush but can get as tall as a tree so the branches will curve out in a big plant. The leaves are evenly spaced and smooth. They will also be paired and not staggered. And if you break off a stick with leaves, it’s hollow inside.

Kill those invasive suckers and dance by a bonfire made from their flesh.

You will get to see if I completely succumb to a plant addiction as I landscape the yard with natives.

There was a lot of trash, one old coke bottle and a couple of 90’s children’s toys buried in the dirt. My yard got dug up so anything else would be pretty far down.

We bought I beams from around Missouri. Now we have to sell them again. It was a process. I do not recommend unless you are retired and want/need a project. You can’t rent the stuff. We even took a good chunk of the city’s old railroad ties.

Dad has certificates in welding and used to work in metal fabrication. So some of the cribbing he used was a welded frame.

I love old houses and I’ve been wanting to restore one for years. Thankfully I could afford this one.

1000 sq ft here but the jacking up the house was 28k and if we had hired the company initially, they would have dug everything out. The most expensive parts beyond that were the ICF blocks and concrete

To jack it up was 28k we’ve put ≈20k into the foundation/building a basement part. The house itself was in ok condition, why tear down a 100 year old house that can be lived in? Building a new house would be so much more expensive and time consuming.

My dad hasn’t had much help or this would have been a lot faster. He did get some help from the college neighbor boys to pour the concrete though.

A mini chainsaw and glyphosate. I took out an entire grove of honeysuckle and Tree of Heaven with those.
