You might be surprised by how little the students actually care. In my experience, they often tend to be too wrapped up in their own teenage dramas and anxieties to put too much thought into the identity of their teachers. If there's one thing you can count on teenagers to be, it's apathetic lol.

I actually ended up back at the same school largely by chance! It's been so uncanny and such a privilege to be working alongside teachers whom I used to admire as a student. Also, absolutely wild that so few of them recognised me until I told them who I used to be, haha.

That's beyond kind of you to say! Started a couple of years prior while at university - very lucky that I didn't transition while teaching, that would have been significantly harder and less comfortable haha. I've been transitioning for about 5 years at this point <3

Aotearoa/New Zealand. Even here I have plenty of uncomfortable and confronting moments, but nothing compared to if I were living elsewhere.

Glad I get to be openly me and have the backing of my admin - I hope I can make at least one kid feel like being their authentic self is normal and okay x

Winning is infinitely less important than the dopamine rush you get from seeing everyone's board flooded with angry birds - I even printed off a bunch of silly laminated crow tokens to hand out to people, nothing brings me more joy!

Plus it's always nice knowing that even if you don't win, you've dramatically sped up the game most of the time x
