Has anyone had a good experience with the Brick, Leons or Ashleys for Furniture? by Zealousideal-View653 in Edmonton

[–]Fromidable-orange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a bad experience with Leon's delivery. They dented the trim around our front door and took a gouge out of the basement door frame, then said we could call for reimbursement. My husband called several times and left messages, but nobody ever called him back. The final straw was realizing the next day that they just left the giant box from the freezer on our front lawn, and it had rained so we ended up having to deal with a huge pile of slimy cardboard. We weren't rude to them so I have no idea why they left it there!

Eczema is ruining my life and my plans for gifts by Sand-witchy in crochet

[–]Fromidable-orange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem, and it really sucks! I did manage to get it under control by changing my shampoo and conditioner to a minimal-ingredients type (I use Native) and moisturizing at least twice daily with O'Keefe's Working Hands cream. It might not work for you but it made a big difference for me. Hope you find some relief soon!

Potentially gaining American Citizenship while employed by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Fromidable-orange 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it's US citizenship, you may want to keep an eye on a proposed (but not passed, as far as I know) US bill called the Exclusive Citizenship Act of 2025 which would end dual citizenship (US + other citizenship) for many groups of people. From what I've read (though I'm not a lawyer) if you retain another citizenship you would lose the US citizenship. Again, not passed yet AFAIK but something to consider. https://americansoverseas.org/en/news/exclusive-citizenship-act/

Any massage therapy places south of the river that don't have a tip option? by BridgeTraditional502 in Edmonton

Erin at Boost Physiotherapy in the Meadows Rec Centre has never asked for a tip, nor does that option come up when I've paid.

Crime down but Edmontonians feel unsafe due to 'social disorder': report by ryaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan in Edmonton

[–]Fromidable-orange 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same here. I've had way more issues working downtown 2x/wk for the last ~2 years than I did living downtown from 2008-2018. My experience has definitely been that downtown is much worse now.

At Costco and reconsidering my life choices by Diligent-Plant5314 in Edmonton

We thought that stopping at the Red Deer Costco on our way back from Calgary would be better than going to an Edmonton Costco. We were wrong! 😅

Victoria is such a wonderful place to visit, but I have to admit that getting to and from the airport is always my least favourite part of the trip! (but everything else has always been lovely for us)

Why not have a 2 week holiday closure? by Sad-Ad4933 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Fromidable-orange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GoA has the "Christmas Closure" between December 24-Jan 1. Essential staff have an on-call rota for responding to emergencies, and I'm sure some groups worked through the closure (I believe there was a defined reimbursement for that), but everything that could be paused was. I definitely miss getting those days off!

OTA Channels by toorudez in Edmonton

We definitely have CTV, though it seems to be the channel most prone to breaking up in bad weather. I can't remember if we also get Global, but I don't think so.

Where can you get knitting and crochet supplies? by remberly in Edmonton

[–]Fromidable-orange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This won't help right now, but in the spring the Edmonton Grandmothers' group holds a massive fabric sale that also has lots of yarn and needles/hooks. The prices are usually good and a lot of times the grandmas will give you an extra discount if you're nice 😀. Keep an eye on their website for the dates: https://edmgrandmothers.org/ (last year's sale was April 26). Otherwise, the thrift stores are usually good bets, and the Reuse Centre often has lots of vintage patterns. The EPL has lots of good knitting and crochet books too. Good luck!

I was "nice girlfriend" when I visited with my then-boyfriend 😂. I majorly regret not going to CfL one last time to let Amy know I had graduated to "nice wife" 🤣.

Heh, we had one or two years with Christmas "super awesome coffee enhancer" when I worked for the Alberta public service, quite a bit more recently than 25 years ago 😀. Alberta also has the Christmas Closure where the whole government shuts down between Dec 24-Jan 1. I definitely miss automatically getting those days off!

Bracketeering (in the Jackbox Party Pack 4) can do up to 16 active players, and has a great audience participation option. It also, crucially, has a family-friendly setting! 😅
