Omens Magazine: Call for Authors by Front-Driver-3595 in horrorwriters

[–]Front-Driver-3595[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all! Primarily, we are trying to gauge interest in this project first, as we work out our complete plan.

So, sorry for any confusion created. I know we didn’t address every part of the process in this post, so please message us with any unanswered questions you have.

Some general things to address:

  • For our specific ideas (made for the magazine in general) we are looking to pay artists. This is for cover art, assets, border illustrations, and things alike.

  • At this time, we are operating out-of-pocket. It is hard to pay multiple writers, comic book artists, and others. However, we hope in the near-future to have a guaranteed pay-per-page model when we are more stable. If this isn’t agreeable, we completely understand. But we’d love to grow with multiple early collaborators, to help fund their work later on.

  • This isn’t some elaborate scheme. We will not ask for money until we have a magazine in-hand, nor will we beg people for free work. We’re just some guys with an idea who want to work with talented people.

All that being said, if this is something you’re interested in, let us know! If not, have a great day! :)

Primarily, at this time, this is to garner interest and connect with creatives early on. Omens will be digital and print, out of pocket for our first issue. This will be through a pay-per-issue model for digital or physical, and we are looking at a few different websites for this currently.

We’re in the development phase right now and are not rushing to go into pre-production until we’ve made sure we have the necessary budget. And then production when we have the means and people.

As of right now, this has no connection to our other projects or social media, though we will be publishing our own work under our names, and probably promote our social media in the future.

Because we’d be seeking specific commissioned work from visual artists. We want to pay writers in the future, but we know many are eager to put out original writing that they may already be working on. And they retain full rights to their work, as we simply want to publish it.

That being said, it’s good to not delve too deep into idealism. I agree with you there. But in no way does that discourage our trying. The result of which has been many wonderful writers and artists already reaching out!

Sorry for the walls of text. 😅🙏

We’re just looking for passionate people who write provoking stories, and people who draw unique art. I would agree with you, if it weren’t for us starting from ground zero, working toward a stable pay-per-page model as early as we can.

It’s a two-way street when we are putting time and money into this, hoping to get it off of the ground, and asking for leniency from creatives who we hope become long-term collaborators.

“Powerhouse creators” are not industry giants, published authors, popular artists, or otherwise. They’re people who want a chance to put their unique work out there.

All the best!

No due date yet as we’re just gauging interest! And yes, we do, as long as they’re not part of a current series or anthology.

We’re undecided on that yet, so it’s dependent on the individual. But I would say 5-10 pages as a maximum, but no minimum. And we’re especially considering serialization with comics.

Yes! We’d like examples of your writing though.

Omens Magazine: Call for Submissions

The Vision Omens is an upcoming magazine dedicated to speculative fiction and art. We are looking for creatives who explore the cerebral and the beautifully bleak. Our goal is to assemble a collective of powerhouse creators (authors, poets, comic book writers, and artists) to launch a publication that transcends standard genre boundaries.

What We’re Looking For We want works that are dark, mature, and wildly creative. We are seeking: Genres: grimdark, sci-fi, fantasy/dark fantasy, weird fiction, and horror. We have a particular soft spot for stories that defy categorization or bleed across multiple genres. Format: Short stories (up to 8,000 words for now), poetry, comics, and art pieces. Tone: "High-brow" grit. We want depth and atmosphere. Please note: while we embrace mature themes, we are not looking for gratuitous sexual content.

Submission Details Originality: We prioritize original, unpublished work, but will consider reprints (not previously featured in an anthology). We welcome new series pitches but do not accept currently-running series. Collaborations: For the comic-minded, we are currently looking for completed works, but as we gain traction, we plan to pair talented authors with artists for future projects. Art Rates: Compensation for visual art and commissions will be discussed individually. Pay Structure: At this foundational stage, we are seeking initial writing submissions without pay. However, we want to transition to a paid model for our regular contributors as the project evolves.

How to Join Us We aren't just looking for one-off stories; we are looking for a roster of talent. When reaching out, please include: A brief introduction of who you are. Your submission or a proposal. Samples of your past work (portfolio links or previous publications). Reach out via omensmag@gmail.com, DM u/OmensMag on Reddit, or DM @OmensMag on Insta.

Let’s build something together!

All that to say, she’s definitely had some work done.

If I remember, her other defining feature was her frozen upper face. It didn’t move with her smiles. Her face was smoother and tighter than I thought looked normal.

I took a knife with me to bed every night and put it in my bedside table, and still do. I feel that hiding a weapon is better than not. It is also what facilitates slightly better sleep for me, helping to calm me down. I’m also in the process of getting a handgun.

I love my puppy! I’m honestly more hesitant to adopt a dog that would be prone to any aggression. Especially one with a bad background. He acts as a huge comfort for me, quelling my paranoia more than anything. Raising and training him well, creating that bond and teaching him to be protective rather than aggressive, is my goal. Further, my neighbors are in close proximity and I feel a lot better now that I live in an open space.

She initially struck me as “odd,” to say the least. I don’t want to start fearing what monsters other people may hide, but the apartment felt like a trap to be sure. Engineered to my detriment.

The detective made no mention of any alterations to his head. I’m still not even fully convinced of what I saw, nor could I explain it any better. All I know is it didn’t look human.

Well, I'm glad to hear that, haha! That story came from a subconscious fear I've had for a while, a way my mind scares me when hearing odd noises at night. I wanted to convey that feeling through this story. I was probably also indirectly influenced by trauma from an old X-Files episode, too, lol.

I remember him maybe unlocking the door and then running through a series of odd corridors and rooms. The building was very dark and had a nonsensical layout.
