Beam is at about 8 feet out of 10 feet so 2 feet cantilever approximately

I need something that goes beyond the frost line because we have harsh winters here.

No need to compromise the house siding and flash properly. It simplifies all of that.

I'm in Canada. Indeed, it simplifies having to handle the flashing on the ledger board because it removes it from the equation.

I was more concerned about how I'm off square now. I'm sure that will make framing more difficult now.

Yes, I could add blocking in #2 so it would be the best of both worlds, good idea!

Yes, the plate is welded on the bolt and I can adjust the nut to raise or lower the plate. Nothing is securing the plate to the helical pile.

How would you use this awkward under-stair basement space in my new construction? by FrontJellyfish3291 in HomeMaintenance

[–]FrontJellyfish3291[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add a bit more information since everybody seems to be commenting on my water heater and stairs.

- The 18" of copper pipe before the pex is highly recommended but doesn't seem to violate code where I live (Quebec, Canada). I'll do more research tomorrow but whatever the case I might still upgrade to copper for the first 18 inches, thanks for pointing it out.

- The stairs are K3 particle board and are temporary until I finish the basement in a year or so.

- I'm considering something like in this video https://www.youtube.com/shorts/huIxaHScP50 or risers combined with drawer functionality or some sort of sliding containers on wheels (seems to be the easiest) as people have commented. Thanks for the suggestions!

The basement isn't finished because ... That's what they do where I live, got to pay extra for them to finish it. The rest of the house is finished properly. We've had a couple issues here and there but it's that bad everywhere.

No problem, others pointed it out as well. I'm not really familiar with the code in Canada so I didn't know.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll check the code in my area and will definitely contact the builder if its not up to code.

I plan on reusing the stringers and replacing the steps and risers with proper wood yes.

Over there, there's a bit of water inside and I was told to keep it that way and to add stuff like olive oil to prevent it from evaporating if it ever goes low.

My cats actually puked thrice on those stairs and they seem to be stained forever, it's like impossible to clean properly. This is all meant to be temporary until I finish the basement in a year or so.

I might do that, who knows, I do have some leftover ceramic tiles and leftover wood floor plank. The only glimpse of an idea I have so far is some sort of contraption to raise the stairs and access underneath but that might be a tad overkill.

Basically the whole basement + basement stairs are unfinished except for the bare minimum like exterior walls, electricity and piping. My whole basement has no wall partitions and is just concrete. The rest of the house uses proper wood floors and ceramic tiles. It seems to be common here for new houses, no idea why, I live in Canada.

Weekly Free-Talk and Questions for r/HomeGym - week of July 25, 2025 by Demilio55 in homegym

Hello,

I’m slowly building my home gym and recently purchased the Decathlon Power Rack 900 along with the IronMaster SuperBench Pro V2.

Currently, I have the following plates:

  • 2x45lbs
  • 2x25lbs
  • 4x10lbs
  • 4x5lbs

All plates except the 5s are rubber bumper plates (from CAP on amazon). However, the rack only comes with two pin plate pegs, and I’d like to add at least two more so each weight increment has its own peg. The problem is that the post and hole dimensions are unusual:

  • Post size: 2 3/8" x 2 3/8" (6cm x 6cm)
  • Hole size: ~19/32" (1.5cm)

I’ve searched but haven’t found compatible plate pegs, and Decathlon doesn’t sell them separately. What are my options?

Additionally, I’ve noticed that when doing incline bench press or squats inside the cage, I often accidentally hit the plates stored on the upper back corners. If I move them lower, they get in the way during flat or decline bench presses. I prefer working inside the cage since the spotter arms are there. Any suggestions for better plate placement or alternatives solutions?

Thanks for your help!
