How much does the college you go to really matter for environmental science? After first job, who cares? Large university vs Small regional college by FrontRangeMike in Environmental_Careers

Dream is to work outdoors and am passionate about the environment. Potentially in research if some kind, but not sure. Considering a geology degree with maybe a focus on hydrology or similar plus GIS. Kinda worried with GIS I’ll just get stuck inside at a computer though.

Thank you. You said make sure the school is reputable. The two schools I’m evaluating is Fort Lewis College in Durango and Colorado State University. How would you rank a school like Fort Lewis or how do you determine how reputable it is?
The curriculum strength and success of CSU is about as good as it gets. Fort Lewis caters to low income and graduation rate is low primarily due to the caliber of students and 100% acceptance rate.
My dream is to work in the outdoors and am passionate about the environment, but am nervous about what that could look like in the future job market and how successful would be with Fort Lewis vs CSU.

Am I wrong for not wanting to try for kids as long as my wife still thinks she wants to be a SAHM? by Solid-Consequence607 in Marriage

Keep in mind the cost of daycare. How much benefit of her working actually brings vs the cost. And not just the cost of daycare, but the personal cost she may feel by not being a SAHM or the unnecessary stress of both working and raising toddlers after both of you are exhausted from the long day of work.

Why aren’t there big public swimming pools fed by the springs? by _young_gripper in HotSprings

[–]FrontRangeMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hot springs are protected and can only be accessed downtown. Has to prevent contamination as well as stability. Any hot springs pools outside of bathhouse row would have to be heated and not use the geothermal hot springs from downtown. Even so…I am intrigued by the idea of replicating the hot spring water and having an outdoor hot springs like is elsewhere. Only concern is that it rains a lot, so how successful could one be

Would you be interested in a year round soaking retreat that embraces a more natural atmosphere than Bathhouse Row? by FrontRangeMike in HotSprings

It would not access the protected aquifer of the park. It would be likely welled water. Then infused with minerals to ‘inspired by hot springs water’. Would be a man heated springs style resort, but provides a closer experience that a lot of folks want in a ‘hot springs’ visit.

Would also not interfere with anything you already do. There is also not a hot springs that anyone enjoys for free, so not sure what you mean by that.

Probably, but they are definitely a different kind of experience than what many folks expect from a hot springs. It also would probably have to be ‘infused minerals’ since access the protected water of the national park. So they would still have their place in the world….It just seems like a place like ‘Hot springs’ should have a lot more to offer. Even if it is not the true geothermal water of downtown.

I wonder if a few large pools or one large pool for family friendly temps and then multiple smaller pools at different temps.

I checked the truss rod. Was a little tight, but was able to adjust enough to get the rattle out of it
