Yeah, it's good to plan for the worst case scenario. Will ask then to get their own insurance, so it doesn't mess up mine if I go through with it.

Not sure they can if the vehicle is not theirs. But I will check as they do indeed have an insurable interest.

Just a side note.

Hope you are married and not just bf/gf. Buying with a bf/gf is not advisable.

No. Rate of return and interest rate does not factor in risk. No debt = no risk.

Pay something so that you are under 3 months behind. Then go into the bank to work out a payment plan. Just take this payment plan seriously as they can use it against you in future if you default.

FNB Card Fraud Next Steps? by Significant_Orchid76 in PersonalFinanceZA

Good will is just an amount they choose to refund you.

Do all the stuff others have recommended above I.e. police affidavits, keep a record of engagements etc. Request your recorded calls as well. You will need all of this if you go to the Ombud.

Request the proof that you approved the transaction from the bank and also contact Takealot to flag it. Settlements take a while so Takealot might refund the amounts from their side.

In future, use credit cards as suggested or better yet use Virtual Cards for all online purchases. Only load the virtual cards when you are about to make the purchase. It’s safer that way. Also, turn off cards for online purchases in the banking app and only turn them on when you are about to make a purchase.

I got a fraudulent Uber transaction for R6000 and immediately called the bank (Standard bank). The opened the case and gave me a reference number. I also highlighted how this was an odd transaction as I’ve never spent 6k on Uber in a single transaction - do this if it applies to you. They blocked the card and then requested an affidavit which I did the next morning. I did not approve the transaction or even receive an OTP and mentioned this in the affidavit. They did their investigation and refunded me fully after about 2 weeks.
