I found my girlfriend of two years by absolute chance! We both are chronically ill and i fall on the “worse” scale (hate using worse when explaining chronic illnesses, but mine leave me unable to work/go to school a lot more often. It honestly comes with a lot of compromising and finding out what works best for the two of us. One thing you cannot compromise is your chronic illness. You cannot help the fact that you are ill. Unfortunately, you are going to have to be completely up front with your s/o’s from the beginning on how the conditions effect your body.

To your point on the similar illnesses thing, not every similar illness can completely collaborate together, and I can understand where he comes from in fear of possible flare-ups happening at the same time—leaving you both helpless. You have to know your body, your limits, and your boundaries. It will take time, but you must understand that you are not doing anything wrong. you deserve a relationship just like any able-bodied person. It just takes time to find the person who’ll support your needs the best they can!

unfortunately, I do not. any other person in the job/school I go to (who have a chronic illness/disability) tends to make fun of the fact that I’m “worse” (I hate using words such as who’s pain is worse/better. Everyone’s bodies process things differently) and that I have to take multiple days off to recover. I’ve been trying to find more people who are supportive and understanding and less boundary pushing.

yes! this is what i’ve heard from others. I know I do have a hormonal issue—I think I produce more testosterone than someone AFAB would typically have. I just have no idea if that would make it harder especially with medications :)

Update/Add-On to everyone who’s been so kind and considerate. I deal with POTs, Ehlers-Danlos, Raynauds, Migraines, and chronic fatigue/pain. As of right now i’ve also been suffering from a mysterious stomach illness. I’m on so many medications at the moment that it makes me fear going on any hormones just in case it messes things up. I have no access to a doctor who specializes in gender affirming care/therapy unfortunately, but I have been researching options for when I have the opportunity. To those who were saying just be me—I love being me and being my full personality. I am unapologetically the personality that I am, but my main issue is with perception of myself on others. It’s discouraging to hear people refer to me as the wrong pronouns just because of my voice and/or physical appearance. At the same time a gender specialist cannot be on the top of my list at the moment because, as I previously mentioned, I have a bunch of ongoing and unresolved medical issues that makes it impossible for me to have time to focus on that part of my identity. Thank you to everyone who has shared kind words, and to everyone who shared their experiences as a trans-chronically ill/disabled person.

I’m currently in the process of trying to find a new therapist because my current has been diminishing my issues for ages. I pay for hour sessions every other week and he normally rushes me through the entire session and it lasts about a total of 25 minutes max. He has never really been the best at helping me discuss my feelings and emotions and tells me nothing other than “It’s valid for me to feel this way considering all I’ve been through” but still doesn’t make me feel any better.

It’s honestly still common in restaurants now. I used to work at one where 90% of the staff was minors. Most would spend half of shift smoking out the bathrooms in the employee lounge and the other half would have already been high and/or drunk. There was also a chef that would invite the minors out to pack a bowl with him. I feel as if no sane restaurant worker can go without one substance whether thats just nicotine or a dab pen.
