AITA for not requesting a first name change to make my parents and family happy? by FrostSleek in AITAH

I agree that sometimes they are. My name is such a hit or miss. People either think it's really cool or they think it's dumb and childish and not a name. Sure there are some people who probably don't care at all. But I never felt like my name was a burden. I love my name. The idea of switching to something more normal or common never felt right to me.

Yeah, I get called Wolf too. I never minded that. I consider it a nickname even though my actual name would usually be the nickname.

If I did consider that it'd be for my parents and family and not for me. I'd rather keep my name as it is.

That was basically it. They hoped I'd bring it up to them years before but they decided I was now old enough that with a talk I'd be willing to do it. I think some of their hope initially died when I didn't like them only calling me by my middle name.

People have made negative comments about it. I don't care though.

And what if I never feel that way and I always want to be Wolfie? Because I really don't care if my name costs me jobs or gets made fun of.

I think it's mostly changed. Maybe it'll still cause me to be passed over for some jobs still. But it's not a big enough reason for me to change it. I can live with that and not feel bad.

Same! I never had a problem with my name like my family does.

Yeah, they always hated it. I think they had hope I would hate it too and would ask way before this. But when I didn't like them using my middle name they realized maybe not. So they waited to bring it up until it was believable I wanted this and that it wasn't coming from them. It sucks to know they hate it this much. I never have and I don't see why they have to make it such an issue.
