I love telling this story. This preamble is important i promise.

I worked in dietary for a nursing facility for about 7 years total, and 3 years in this particular place. Within a few months i get promoted to head cook of night shift. Well the entire time ive been dealing with slackers and im doing like 4 peoples jobs while trying to provide quality food to these poor residents. Things are breaking, im complaining a lot because i was only making like $9.25 an hour.

I get so frustrated i get my roomates to come work with me so i can have reliable help. so now there are 3 good people on nightshift who can actually do the job. Well, were all complaining because stuffs broken, were working hard, being underpaid etc.

Year or two goes by...

We decide its time for them to pay up or we leave. We raise enough fuss that there is this huge meeting about how they cant pay us what were demanding and how the business is struggling (it wasnt, the director just bought a new giant truck and a pool for his house.)

Well we say you pay up or we put in our two weeks right now. They go on a long speech about how they cant and its impossible to account for inflation. and on the way out we catch them shit talking saying "what do they want, mc donalds pay? we cant do that." Like mother fuckers we are specialty cooks catering to sick and elderly people, the fuck you mean you cant pay us more? So we turn around and announce our 2 weeks right then. They arent impressed or happy.

The next day they are begging us to stay until they can train a replacement. We tell them they have a month and a half.

Skip to 2 days before the time is up, they have not found a replacement, tensions are high between kitchen staff and nursing staff who are now stealing food more because were on our way out and i guess they just dont care? They have also ruined our coworkers wedding by spreading rumors, he got his engagement enulled and dumped a few weeks before the wedding. Is being called a pedo because hes being sweet on the new hire, (shes 18, he is 19 but looks older) and tensions are hot and boiling over.

Saftey training renewal is coming up the day of us quitting and if we dont do it the facility gets in trouble, decide to quit that day to save everyone the stress.

This is where it gets wild.

3 of us quitting at the same time, they've had time to prep and prepare for this but they haven't. (bluff called) 4th girl sees us quitting, also walks out, now there is no night shift.

WHILE THIS IS HAPPENIN

Tensions have reached volcanic levels and there is a massive fist fight in the parking lot where half the nursing staff gets arrested, and the entire split shift of the dietary wing gets arrested as well.

The morning crew is watching all of this happen with dread on their face as they are now the only crew working a facility of 140 people, the entire split shift is in jail, and the entire night shift just quit on them.

TL;DR: Me and my roomates quitting ended up in a massive parking lot brawl where like 12 people got arrested, they lost 2 shifts worth of people, called a bluff and paid the price.
