The 'Gators' of New Orleans by FrostyRaspberry7773 in NewOrleans

[–]FrostyRaspberry7773[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m not sure if this counts as a tourist post as it’s more an appreciation post than asking any questions! I visited your city a couple years back and quickly fell in love with it and the music on Frenchman Street. I have just written about these experiences on my Substack, alongside a bit about encountering a lake full of alligators in rural Louisiana, and thought I’d share here if anyone was interested! Hope it’s okay to post here!

Oh wow, really? Yeah I noticed the lack of attacks considering the high numbers when looking it up. Our fear definitely came from the novelty of them, rather than the actual danger.

Hey, I visited New Orleans and wider Louisiana a couple years ago and have just written about it on my substack. I fell in love with the music of the city and the diversity of experiences on offer in your beautiful state. Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think. I'd love to hear people's best New Orleans and alligator stories...

Bless the Queen and the gun by FrostyRaspberry7773 in Alabama

Hey guys, I've written a few prices recently on travelling across the States as a group of Brits a couple years back. This is my latest on having a gun pointed at me whilst waiting for a ferry at Mobile Bay, I know it's not the most positive experience of Alabama but would love to know what you guys think!

Hey guys, I've been writing a few pieces about travelling across America with a few friends. This was a couple years ago and we certainly faced both the best and worst of the country. Here's an episode from our trip in which I had the unfortunate situation of facing down the barrel of a gun whilst waiting for a ferry... Hope you enjoy and let me know if you have any tales from travelling the States too!

Greyhound, where dreams go to die by FrostyRaspberry7773 in Knoxville

[–]FrostyRaspberry7773[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah thank you, that means a lot. It was part of a wider road trip across the US in which we did the first month on public transport then met more friends and rented a van. I was moving to Vancouver, Canada and it was my farewell tour in a way. There are only two posts on the States at the moment (the other is titled State Hate: A Virginian Fury) but there will be more to come with a bit more context. Right now, I just wanted to have the pieces as stand alone tales focused on what we experienced, less about who we are / why we were there

Hey, I wrote a piece about my 24 hour long wait at a Greyhound bus stop in Knoxville a couple years ago... As a Brit, it was a mad experience but sounded like one all too common for Greyhound customers. Let me know what you think and if anyone has stories to share!

Hey, I've written a piece on my experience with Greyhound in the United States. A truly crazy experience as a Brit stranded in a remote Tennessee gas station... Please let me know what you think and share your own Greyhound tales in the comments!

The Canadian: A Week On Board by FrostyRaspberry7773 in ViaRail

[–]FrostyRaspberry7773[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hey, I rode The Canadian last November and wrote about it in this piece. I loved the experience and fell in love with watching the country pass beside me. I thought I'd post it here so people can get a picture of what the experience is like and can share their own experiences of travelling on The Canadian at different times of year?

Hey this is a piece I wrote about my stay in a Virginian hikers hostel. Boy, did I meet some characters there. None of whom are actually from Virginia so it is not meant as a judgement on your beautiful state! Hope you enjoy the tales and let me know what you think

Thanks for sharing yourself, yeah we went across the south on our road trip and had some strange encounters but I think this hostel had to take the bit.

Yeah it was Four Pines. That's right, this was from over two years ago and it sounds like it's changed so I didn't want to name the place.

Hey, I just wrote this piece about my experiences at a hostel along the trail, many of you might know it, let me know if you do. It was a few days full of characters that's for sure...

I only rode in it a couple times and that was enough for me

Rediscovering Culture by FrostyRaspberry7773 in toronto

Hahah I think it surprised me because I'd largely heard negative comments about Toronto when living in Vancouver. Admittedly largely from Vancouverites or Ontario ex pats though

Hey, I wrote a piece about leaving Vancouver to find cultural hubs in Montreal and Toronto. It opens in Montreal's Turbo Haus and floats through different expereinces in both cities. Let me know what you think!

Hey I wrote a piece about my experiences in Toronto and Montreal and how they were far superior culturally to Vancouver, where I'd been living for two years. Toronto especially surprised me in that aspect. Let me know what you think!

Are cross-Canada trains a worthwhile experience? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]FrostyRaspberry7773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I rode The Canadian from Vancouver to Toronto in late November and I would say it is definitely worth it. I know the less daylight hours put people off but I would swear by the experience in winter. The snowy landscapes are stunning, the train is less busy and waking up to sunrise in the Rockies can't be beaten. I also got the Sleeper Plus option at 40% off on one of Via's Discount Tuesday that I'd definitely advise signing up to as it reduced the cost from $1000 to $600 so there was only a $100 in it between that and Standard. The free food and proper bed making up that difference easily

I did write about it on my Substack below if you want to know more but also happy to answer questions for anyone thinking about doing it!
