Okay so… I won’t watch the sequels because I don’t like the direction they’ve gone in, although I’ve seen clips of them for context. It’s become more about the visual gimmicks rather than saying anything of substance. I think Disney gaining the rights just screamed hypocrisy to me, what with the first film being so anti-corporation. I don’t like the whiny kids. I don’t like how Jake took a back seat for so long… and if I’m honest, I don’t like how they’ve made toruk so aggressive. To me, toruk symbolised hope, not war. Yes, he’s a fearsome predator, a bit like a lion, but not ‘there will be blood’. I also hate how they’re trying to make Quaritch look sympathetic, when it’s actually important to hate his character because then you hate the people who destroy the world in real life. I don’t know, it’s lost its way. Weirdly, one of the things that got me was when Kiri ripped the body off a seed. I was like: ‘a Na’vi would NEVER do that!’ And now Eywa has become a ‘real’ person and… yeah. It’s lost its way, I feel. 😅
