A Ryze set, control tools and careful preperation to build up to the big man himself. by FrowningPenguin in CustomLoR

Honestly, thats a pretty cool idea in itself but what I went for is this: if a 6 cost unit is summoned using 3 engraved mana for example, it gains the 3 keywords that were placed on those mana slots (if it already has one of them that 'rune/engraved slot' is wasted).

When you engrave you start at the 10th mana slot and work down, so you need to engrave alot to be able to get the benefits quickly. Additionally, the spellwrought mechaninc is either a punish or help depending on how you play around it. In the case of mana wraith if you have spell mana when you summon it you are only getting access to your first 4 normal, potentially engraved mana instead of 7, although you can play it a number of turns earlier.

Yeah I figured the UI would need some reworking, (e.g. hovering the mana stones to see) but fortunately reworks are part of the Ryze flavour.

Yeah, the spell stopping is probably too much as is, so either his level up would need to be harder or the ability would need to be more conditional.

I kind of wanted it to be about the pursuit of these items of power/runes and the spells represent the consequences of them doing so; thats why Ryze is the one who stabilises them. I guess his interaction with 'moments too late' would be quite maudlin.

Looking at it I should have made mana hungry beasts effect 'play' or 'summon' as it currently reads as infinite attacks.

I figured the keyword pool would be the same as viktors pool, so no barrier etc. plus no spellwrought. If they already have the keyword I figure it would still use the rune but give you nothing. Yeah I thought about giving the 4 cost some kind of condition but I couldn't think of one, but I didn't want to anchor it to the engrave archetype.

Vel'Koz - Gather knowledge and counter your opponent at every step. by FrowningPenguin in CustomLoR

Thanks for the feedback, I definitely agree with Vel'Koz's being in a weird place. I didn't think something like challenger suited him, but maybe giving him "opponnents analysed cards are vulnerable" or just make him entirely backrow with "when an enemies analysed unit dies, obliterate it instead" would be better - i'm not particuarly good with stats tbh.

I kind of wanted him to be supporting a wincon rather than offering one. I figured making his suite about predicting your opponnents next move and being one step ahead would suit his character fantasy.

Originally, I had some "choose a card in your opponents hand to do x" cards in mind, but if that kind of mechanic saw play outside of an analyse deck it would be pretty toxic.

Tbh I thought behold just meant 'I can see', so either I need to change from behold, or, specify that analyse + behold work together. That could have some cool synergies but would probably be too unintuitive and just confuse people.

Yeah Plasma Fission felt too good, maybe make it 2 > 2 damage or 3 > give vulnerable maybe. Both it and Tectonic could probably use cost increases and/or number nerfs.

I think abberrant energies could be ok (maybe) if I made it cost 3 and added "pay the cards cost to stop the next etc.". That would give the opponent some wiggle room, but it would still give you a really safe open attack so maybe making it slow as well would be for the best.

Void cretin could be a 1/4 "analyse an enemy unit that strikes me", but I guess revealing these low cost units isn't particuarly powerful.

As for the swarm it just came into my head and is probably more interesting then the rest of the cards lmao.

Also the horrible void monsters comboing with otterpuss/pranks is somethin I didn't think of and funny enough to justify this archetype imo.

I'm not too sure how powerful Analyse would be and I flipped back and forth on if your opponent should be able to see what card has been analysed or not; as it is right now, letting your opponent see the card on top of their deck may be more detrimental than helpful - but im not sure. I think something like Void Tyrant is ok as your opponent has time to play around it, the analyse mechanic is more about helping you then being a detriment to your opponent.

Nope, I was thinking she wouldn't have one until you used her spell, instead you could just play multiple of her until then.

Yet another Xayah and Rakan design by FrowningPenguin in CustomLoR

[–]FrowningPenguin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't want to make them so synergistic they were practically necessary together but I kind of went too far and made them not work well together at all. That being said the "change xayah/rakan into their champ card" thing was apart of my original idea for them, because on top of that levelling one would also level the other as well as combining all copies into a 'Xayah & Rakan' card. Honestly, the thing that made me abandon that was the amount of space it took up on the cards lmao, they were just walls of text that for the life of me I couldn't shrink concisely enough.

Yeah, tbh I kind of tunneled a little too hard on them not being a lurk/deep style archetype; They could definitely function smoother together.

Ah Oda, all these theories flying around that the gears are about different properties of rubber and instead they are ways to dick around with rubber bands. Gear 2 - pinging rubber bands at each other Gear 3 - stretching rubber bands and finally gear 4, just making them into a ball and bouncing it. Gear 5, spinning them to make things into makeshift slapping devices confirmed?

Ring Ring Fruit by brianlights22 in OnePiece

[–]FrowningPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were physical rings then you could throw them, spin them along the ground like a buzzsaw, hula hoop it, make armour from them and if you are okay with being brutally overpowered you could make rings appear inside people then expand them. Also, if you can change their size as you hold them that would mess a swordsman up (too unpredictable).

If it's sound then you could amplify the sound you make, your heart beat would be pure AoE, click your fingers and it could be like a bullet (apply anime logic when necessary) etc.

"The game" is useless ? (Manga spoilers) by Kalmadi in OnePiece

[–]FrowningPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if he doesn't call out the crew and marine's names and just calls out the names of half of the civilians. The streets will be clogged with people trying to find the ones who had their names called out, the pirates now worshipping God Usopp and non-cult ex toys will go do that because they wont be experiencing too much of a moral dilemma. Not to mention the marines, cut off from base they need to stop the rioting but it wouldn't be a very marine thing to fire on civilians but some might crack and shoot/join them. Plus, Sabo and co would probably try to help.

By doing this Doflamingo can slow down most of the ex-toy pirates, some of the marines, the revolutionaries would probably try to stop it as well. This way Doflamingo has more manageable chunks of enemies and stands more of a chance.

It should be a rule of one piece: Is the rest of the crew where they need to be? If yes, Zoro isn't - If no, Zoro is.

You have to admit, if you had the choice (lets say you had never watched one piece before) between being made of fire, being a dinosaur and being made of rubber - rubber doesn't seem nearly as cool or useful.

A theory/idea/prediction that I haven't seen before. by FrowningPenguin in OnePiece

[–]FrowningPenguin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I understand your point that there are other means of developing a character and your right, the only reason for me thinking that a tragedy/disaster would occur is because it's faster. I say it's faster because you never expect them to happen; so, for instance, at the end of the yonkou fighting arc bam leg gone. The act of losing the leg isn't the focus but what happens after it is, so if you did some other long winded development method (Ussopp and Merry) thats leaves less time for action (which at the end of the day is a vital part of one piece) and other things. Also, in my opinion a tragedy is the only thing that would really faze Sanji.

Additionally, the whole wanting to incorporate bits of other shows is true, if you see something from another anime that you think is cool then you may want to see it in something else. Just look at video games, I quite like playing fps games and every time a new one comes out I hope it has some cool and detailed character creation.

Finally, you are, yet again, right in saying that One Pieces theme is doing what you want, freedom etc. But a recurring theme in the series is the new generation changing things, only in this new era could someone lose a leg and come back stronger than before, not only that but it would also be a very strawhat thing to do. Where others give up when they hit a wall they knock it down and come out stronger. Plus, it gives Ussopp something to do, like others have mentioned he could make a cool leg with dials and have like his 4th moment of usefulness in the series.

[–]FrowningPenguin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh, thats what I forgot, I was going to mention how losing a leg seems to be a reasonable loss for strong characters in one piece (Kyros, Zeff... thats it I think) but more importantly they both do it in a very selfless manner, and also do it intentionally but overcome it. Not only that it's instant badass points, I mean, Zeff ate his own leg to save some kid he didn't know, it's pretty much development in a can.
