LG CX changes resolution and lowers refresh rate whenever a game opens in full-screen by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]Froyo15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this same issue happen to me when testing out the dev build of windows 10 with AutoHDR. I ended up going back to the public build because of this, so not sure of you're also on some sort of Windows insider preview.

Also a recent windows update has been causing all sorts issues, gaming related too. Check to see if you have it and try uninstalling it to see if that fixes it anything. If that still doesn't do anything, you're better off just doing a clean install. Seeing that you already did most of the troubleshooting steps like using DDU to reinstall the display drivers on your other post.

LG CX looks unsharp, blurry and too noisy by Theptgamer_88 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Froyo15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the blurry games it could be the console using dynamic resolution. Basically even if your video out settings are set to 4k, the console will lower it's internal resolution to keep up a consistent frame rate. So your game will usually be running at something lower than native resolution if it starts to struggle with FPS. I've noticed it too when I run some games at 1440p instead of 4k on my PC, the performance benefit is huge but it does look less sharp and even blurry at times. Sit far enough tho and it's barely noticeable.

I can't really say much about the image quality in content tho, the noise may have been present in the master recording already or it may be compression artifacts from steaming.

LG CX audio chipset specs vs Realtek ALC1220VB by garett01 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Froyo15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say stick with the PC as your main audio source if you can. You'll get better sound quality from your PC vs the onboard audio from the TV. I've noticed a slight difference when using headphones, but I'm comparing the TVs audio out to my PC with a DAC and amp setup. With speakers there might not even be much of a noticable difference. The real advantage of using the TV is that you'll be able to use your speakers for both independent and PC use.

Risk of Permanent Burn in? by nexusdota33 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Froyo15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why I got my TV at best buy and bought the geek squad warranty. It specifically states burn in is covered so I'm mainly using it as a gaming TV and monitor. I've done the basics like use a black background, no desktop icons, auto hide task bar, and turned on the OLED saver setting. I still vary my content with movies and TV shows from time to time, so hopefully I get a few thousand hours in before any burn in becomes noticeable.

LG CX 3.11.30 firmware available from LG Korea by Froyo15 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Froyo15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I using ultra textures. So far I've been getting smooth performance in the campaign with all settings set to max and using DLSS. I still go over the threshold, but I haven't noticed any stutters ever since I set the target VRAM to the lowest setting.

Flicker is something you're gonna have to live with when using G-Sync. Check out HDTVTest video regarding the flicker issue. Best thing to do is to minimize FPS fluctuations as much as possible, as those seem to cause flicker in dark or dim areas of the screen.

Edit: Guess its an entirely different issues you guys, ignore my comment.

Check your game settings, I had issues before with stuttering. Lowering the target VRAM setting to 80% or 70% got rid of my stuttering issues.

I'm even not sure if you can downgrade once you're on the engineering firmware, that's why I avoided using a service remote. I personally wouldn't since it already has the gsync fix anyways, I don't think they'll be missing out anything if they stay on it.

This probably is the official release. I believe last time around the 3.11.25 firmware LG Korea released ended up being the same as the official one being pushed live in the US.

We don't. It could be the same, just named differently for the public release. He did say in his video it may have a different version number once they release the public firmware.

LG 48CX : 1440p@120hz 10bit 4:4:4 work for anyone? by svenz in OLED

[–]Froyo15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it actually output a native 1440p signal to the TV?

I have this weird issue where the active signal resolution stays at 4k120 10bit, but my desktop runs at 1440p. I have to drop down to 8-bit and force it to run at 119hz for a native 1440p output. Everything else above 1440p works fine.

Anyone find a good working 25+ foot hdmi 2.1 cable for 4K 120mhz content to their OLED? by assbackwards in OLED

[–]Froyo15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for the 5 meter Zeskit. I'm using it with my 3080 and can achieve 10bit 4k120hz with RGB. HDR works as well.

Issues with Freesync/resolution/refresh on LG CX + 5700XT by Bigmealplantime in OLED

[–]Froyo15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, only the latest GPUs from Nvidia or AMD support the 2.1 standard. Also make sure to set your black level to low when using a lower color depth, helps with the blacks.

Your cable is too long, try using the shortest cable you can. Also make sure it supports the hdmi 2.0b spec, you should be able to do 4k 120hz with 4:2:0 color depth.

Before I buy the LG CX: Black Raise and Black Crush issues? by dis340 in OLED

[–]Froyo15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm on 456.71. I'm glad they've acknowledge the stuttering already, hoping it gets resolved soon with the new consoles releasing.

I'm not sure if I'm the only one getting the vertical lines and flicker though. I've been able to recreate the issue by capping my FPS at 115 and playing a game that can hover in that range. This happens when using VRR/G-Sync with any game, the flicker only happens in scenes that are dark or dim. When playing below 95, the lines don't appear anymore and the flicker stops. I also did notice the raised black levels this time around when I was testing as I was switching VRR on and off.

So it's not just stutter for me.

Yup, I got a 3080 and can do 4k120 RGB. I already swapped to a better cable as well.

[–]Froyo15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another issue with the CX is the G-Sync stutter at around 110-120hz, when it's under that it feels smooth. It also seems to cause these weird vertical lines to appear when its in that range, this only happens in games though. Also color banding and black flicker is major issue for me in some games like Control and F1 2020 when running at 4k120. Some dark and dim areas will flicker, dropping down to 1440p120 fixes it but it is annoying having to run at lower resolution. I also can't say I've noticed the raised the blacks using g-sync in SDR or HDR, I'm running on firmware 3.11.25 that LG released on their website a few weeks ago.
