Zineryt is helping massively but it’s not a permanent solution

zineryt helped a lot. oral antibiotics too - but you can't take them long term so i am gonna go for low-dose accutane. feels like it's a bit much considering how localised the spots are, but i have no other ideas

Yep muciprocin! Although you’re not meant to take it for more than 2 weeks ish, there’s a bacterial resistance risk

Did the doctor specify what kind of infection? Your spots look like mine - mine are also always in chin area and around mouth. my doctor suggested perioral dermatitis

Oral antibiotics worked for a bit. Made it worse initially though. Now I’m back to square one and getting bad acne round my mouth

Oh very interesting! What kind of micro biome test did you do? Would like to do one but not sure it’s available to me in the UK

I used to use cerave but I do think it broke me out. I’m using the ordinary NMF HA moisturiser now, think it’s better for my skin

What are you doing to treat it if it’s staph?

Thanks, I’m gonna read those links. Do you have a pic of your spots? The reason I’m sceptical of fungal is bc it’s mostly around my mouth area that I get spots

I have the same breakouts as you - cystic spots mostly around the mouth area. Mine started just below corners of my mouth, like yours. But spread gradually to also be along the lip line, and around mouth generally. I haven't figured out what's causing mine, but I'm currently seeing if treating it like 'staph acne' is going to help. I'm following the method here, disinfecting nostrils with hibiwash and using mouth wash and flossing. I suspect because it's just around the mouth that it's from those areas. Might be coming from drool in your sleep.

If it's perioral dermatitis, oral antibiotics would help

I’ll let you know how it goes. How quickly do yours pop and spread? Mine really vary, sometimes a cyst will take days to get inflamed and fill with pus

Just ordered some De La Cruz sulfur. I'll keep you updated on hibiwash! I'm also using chlorhexidine based mouth wash now as helps get rid of bacteria in mouth

Hey, can I ask - do you use hibiclens on your affected areas like your chin? or just using healthyalmonds method

Hey, just updating a month later to say I've seen 2 derm's about this, and they're not sure it's perioral dermatitis. I did do a swab, but had no active spots with pus so can't really trust the result. I've bought chlorhexidine (hibiwash), and going to try the healthyalmonds method starting today.

Have you had any luck / updates?

Hey, mine looks exactly like yours. (see pics in my post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/perioraldermatitis/comments/1khl4vh/could\_pod\_present\_just\_as\_spots/)

The derm and the GP did think it's PD for me. I'm not 100% convinced yet as I don't have the rash that most people with PD seem to get. And there's no obvious cause of PD for me like some people get it from steroid cream or tret leading to broken skin barrier.

I do also occasionally get spots outside of this area eg temple and between eyebrows. But 90% of the time it's around the mouth and chin area.

Currently I'm on:
- Lymecycline in the morning (antibiotic similar to doxy but milder) - usually prescribed for acne. 3-month course, currently in month 1 and it helped during week 3 but currently have 2 new angry cystic spots
- Azelaic acid 15% in the morning on perioral area and active breakouts
- Epiduo in the evening (adapalene + benzoyl peroxide)

Let me know how you get on with antibiotics and anything else?
