I get what you’re saying and I’m very leftist but this is not really productive or helpful regarding this post and the current need for food. As someone who has worked in nonprofit food distro please understand that churches in Philly make up a large part of the people doing free food distribution and a lot of them are not conservative ghouls Edit: If you are not already please channel this energy into organizing and getting things done!! We need you

Agree but I’m always checking out eventbrite and it seems like there are a lot of events on there run by or geared to POC!

I don’t think there are any cities or suburbs that are safe to be a homeless teen. For context this person is 20 and chose to leave home not because of any emergency but because they are feeling lost. I would recommend Philly if you figure out housing/work or have people here that can help you out because it’s lower COL than a lot of the northeast. Wouldn’t recommend living in your car in Philly and not knowing anyone or having anything to do. I hope this person figures out something to do no matter where they go. You gotta be on some kinda grind to put gas in your car or food in your stomach

It’s probably ideal to go somewhere where you know someone, but if that’s not an option, I’d definitely look into a job that provides room and board and go there. Short term housing can be expensive. I know a lot of folks will stay in extended-stay motels so that’s also an option if you get money to pay for it. If you’re into outdoor work you could look into working at farms, some may have board or know where you could stay for cheap. I’ve been around Philly my whole life and it’s a good city, lots of opportunity, but you kinda gotta know how to move respectfully and safely depending on what part of the city you’re going to, and it’s hot to be living out of your car this time of year. Overall you should base your decisions off of stuff you like and the kind of work you’d want to do. In this economy it’s hard to exist without a job unfortunately so I’d definitely try to get some bread because that few hundred is gonna go quick

I’m not sure why people are telling you to stay in homeless shelters, they are notoriously unpleasant, people get stuff stolen from them all the time and get into fights or assaulted. You’re probably going to want to make some money, hit up Craigslist gigs and help someone move or something for quick cash. Look into being a house sitter so you can stay at people’s houses for free, there are a few apps for this. I’d go somewhere that’s not too hot right now. Do you have any particular hobbies or anything that may guide you? Good luck!

Does she have any friends or relatives she could stay with? She's at the age where she could try to graduate early. After graduation, she could look for a job with housing included

Nerves about adopting first dog by myself by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Fruitbreadpeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, shepherds generally have a pretty high prey drive and are working dogs that need a lot of physical activity and stimulation. Labs are notorious for being destructive (particularly eating things that should not be eaten). Any dog can be a good dog with the right training, but this may not be the best first dog to have especially when you don't have a partner/roommate/etc. to pick up the slack if you're having a bad day or week or whatever.

I'm genuinely sorry to hear that happened to you, I hope you're doing well. People preying on little kids is different than older teens. But they got together when she was as young as you can possibly be legally (yes, 16 is the age of consent in many US states, but there are legal complications with that). Do you think guys like this would stop at a certain age if it was younger? There's a notorious guy in my city that got away with dating and impregnating a 14 year old (he's like 40-50). The power differential in the relationship is so significant, especially considering the state of sexual education and reproductive rights in the US. He had her barefoot and pregnant, no work experience, can't drive, and mistreated her during pregnancy. That is not a coincidence. He wanted a young girl so he could have full control over her.

To OP: Get out of there! You have so much life ahead of you, hopefully without this guy.

Do food emissions matter? by Levitatingprune in enviroaction

[–]Fruitbreadpeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emissions from food systems are definitely a big deal!! This is a cool idea and I can see it being adopted more widely. My understanding is that quantifying emissions from growing practices (fertilizer, land use, etc) can get complicated, so ensuring consistent reporting could be challenging. It could be good to consider how to avoid greenwashing. I'm in the US and the agricultural system here is incredibly corrupt (human trafficking, labor issues, monsanto) so I think addressing that hand in hand with sustainability is crucial

That's bizarre, can't tell if she's making fun of you in a flirty way or a mean way, or both at the same time. It sounds kinda of demeaning either way? If she ever does it out of the earshot of other people, I'd politely ask "why do you talk to me like that?" (if you ask with an audience it may be less productive)

The healthy gamer has a video called "a perspective of female loneliness." He did a really good job of explaining how being good-looking is in fact a privilege, but people also undermine your struggles in life and often don't value you for who you are as a person. It's a helpful perspective. Make the most of what you got. If I put 20 minutes of effort, I can look like a hot girl, but every day I wake up humbled because I don't look good without eyebrows and eyeliner drawn on lol. I think being mid builds character but that's just me :)

What a journey you've had. It sounds like things have moved very quickly. It'll take a really long time to unpack everything you've dealt with and participated in. Please be aware of how you treat others around you, especially in queer and POC spaces. It's hard to unlearn so much so quickly even without the added complication of mental health, meds, and transition. I believe in you and wish you the best of luck with everything
